You know I’m not really an auto guy based on stuff mentioned above. I would avoid topping them strictly because it needs to be very timely to be successful. But I do feel a little defoliantion can be beneficial if done properly.
I agree with @dbrn32 I’m not an auto guy but all i here is leave them be
If you want to learn to top autos and really get the most out of them, there’s a guy named “autobeast” over on Autoflower dot net that has a pretty easy to follow system. He and some others are getting amazing yields from autos that were unthinkable just a few years ago. He used to be over on 420Magazine but they had a disagreement and all his info is on AFN now. He’s willing to help anyone who wants to learn about maximizing autos.
His system calls for topping autos ONLY between day 14 and day 20 (starting the day they emerge from the soil) and topping just above the 4th node.
There’s lots more great tips from him as well. He freely gives away his entire method/system and it doesn’t take a huge investment to use the identical soil and nutes. I’d do some reading before you just jump into snipping. I have about a 65% success rate topping them. The other 35% of the time the plant kinda stunts and I get lower yield than I hoped for.
Here’s a couple examples of his regular results - what I’m shooting for:
If THAT doesn’t motivate ya to try topping autos, I don’t know what would. Lol!
@dbrn32 I think I found a reasonably priced LED grow light set up of two HIGROW 600Ws “High Efficiency: 600W HPS/MH replacement while consuming only 250W !” (300$ total) So a total lightdraw power would be 500W which would work best for wattage per square foot on our budget lol.
@DTOM420 I’m curious if you’ve already harvested, if so what was your dry yield like? I did look into Autobeast’s library of knowledge and I don’t see how you had a 65% success rate so I’m curious to see how that came around
Only top if the auto is known to have a long veg time. If you don’t time it right, you’ll end up stunting your plants, rather than increasing yield.
@geezer906
First grow with them. They seem to do the job for first inside grow. As I get more into it sure I will get a better set up.
But they light up and buds are doing very well. When you search there is such a price range it’s mind blowing when your just starting.
Why I used sohum and these lights wanted to keep it simple and get some good smoke.
Pretty much all I have to do is water and look.lol
Keeping about 12-15 inch off tops seem to work best.
Based on my experience, that light won’t perform like a 600 watt hps. It will grow weed for sure, but I would keep your expectations from them reasonable.
@dbrn32 has a very good point about the QB. He suggested to me the HLG 260 Watt Quantum board led v2. Check these out before you buy anything. @dbrn can explain why these are the best type of lights to buy. Yes pricey at first but you get what you pay for. Happy growing
And I don’t expect it to operate like a 600HPS, I’m expecting it to run at the same power of a 250W because that’s the power it consumes. Does that sound realistic?
Yup, that sounds pretty realistic to me.
I was just reading this and wondering how the grow went with the Bestvas and the Phlizon.
Im right now using 1 Phlizon 600w and 1 Bestva 1000w, and would like to read about some real results on those
Used bestiva for a year( 1000)
Ended up getting 4 one foe each plant. Decent harvests nothing to write home about.
Ended ilup getting a California lightworks solarxtream. Pulls 800watts. Nught and day over those china lights.
A post was split to a new topic: New grower looking for some help with plants
This is my first time on a forum and i dont know if I’m doing this correct to get some advice on my new grow
