Beechnut Pharm Tales

Plants seem to be improving a little bit. The F1s are not going to be knocking it out the park IMHO. It’s obvious the importance of a good trouble free start for autos. The epsilon is about 3-4 inches tall and is starting to grow her preflower pistils so it is very likely she will be the smallest one to date the way things are looking right now. The two ethos autos are looking much better in comparison and hopefully all will start getting some size on them soon. I guess I have a pretty good argument for photos over autos this grow. All bets off as far as outcome goes. If it turns out to be a light harvest it will be the third in a row and that will be plenty of incentive to pop a couple photos next time. No weight makes for a long wait.

Speaking of long waits… just know I’ll have a photo Christmas present for you this year. The PM’s really enjoyed the sun yesterday. I wish there would have been some today. No worries… they’ll get plenty between now and the end of July.

Damn already trying to flower on you. The literature on autos would lead to believe they are much easier than they apparently are. I remember you mentioning the large number of issues you found on the forum. I think I’m going to wait until the 1st of May to plant autos in the hopes the full summertime sun will help.

I’m not able to keep the humidity up. I also had some issues in germination. It was just a tough start for them and is what is. Most have been easier and definitely bigger but it goes with the territory. Small grow space so it helps with variety since they are generally smaller than their photo counterparts.

Yeah you never know what you are going to really get until you get it. You can’t beat the turn around time that’s for sure and that definitely helps with variety. I can’t wait to check them out this season. :sunglasses::metal:t2:

@OverallQuill80 , If it’s any consolation , My Epsilon is 30 days since planting , and it broke ground 2-7. It has been showing pistils for almost 2 weeks. It didn’t start “taking off” growing until I pruned the fan leaves to expose the hidden nodes. since that day it has doubled in size. With that said, I also am running 100 watts per each plant (2 lights) ,for 24 hrs and dim them to @10% for 4-6 hrs a night. Almost off…I’ve added recharge with each feed/water . It is the same height as the Royal Gorilla auto next
to it (dropped and popped same time) , how ever the Gorilla has much
fatter fan leaves. In old FFHF and New OF mix 50/50. 3gl. fabric.
Oh, and even though they showed themselves early I can’t say there is any “buds” forming. And the structure appears like a Sativa .
Oh…LOL… My only other Auto grow was a SLH and it took almost or right at four months to finish but didn’t show pisils until after like 1.5 months. She was slow , but I also had some problems during flower.

Thanks. I do a lot of thinking out loud here and with the mediocre results of the last couple grows, the thread has been a little less than positive for all who follow this. I have had a couple autos that didn’t get much veg growth before preflowers started showing and still gained enough size to exceed my expectations. I would not really say these are early though at 3-4 weeks. Just didn’t give them them the best start. I have read more than once that high stress in the early stages triggers early flowering. As I said earlier, it does help make a good point for choosing photos instead. Allows time to fix problems in veg and choose when the plant is big enough to flip. Edit- when I am replying to a specific comment or question I always click the reply arrow in said post instead of the blue boxed one at the bottom. It’s always put their avatar pic and reply arrow at the top of my reply to clarify that I was talking directly to them instead of my usual general update for everyone. It’s not working for some reason now so I’m going to try to remember to tag names in the replies from now on.

I have that problem too sometimes

so I usually just also put the name in prob. something I haven’t figured out here yet. :face_with_monocle:

Very helpful that…

Me too. And not just early stage - stress can trigger flowering, or other bad reactions.

This is a really helpful insight!! Many of the sellers push autos as “easier”, but while I have zero actual experience yet, it appears that may not be entirely true.

This is the primary reason for all the controversy over autos imho. They have very few advantages over photos but are suitable for variety in small spaces and depending on how many plants allowed, outdoor growers can get more than one harvest per season and do autos only or along with photos. I guess the same applies for indoor to some extent for people with a little more space than me. As for beginners, they are certainly ideal if you’re looking for a hands on, no reset button crash course in growing technique. I had a pretty good first grow with them and continue to grow them. Re adjusting the lighting schedule is simple so it’s pretty ridiculous to push no flip flowering as the main selling point.

THanks for sharing your knowledge Quill. I appreciate learning from a local!

You’re welcome @Alien_Shore but word of caution. Anyone looking to me for knowledge is probably making a mistake. Blind leading the blind lol. I still think of myself as a beginner on grow #9.

Third time with ethos. I had a Strawberry OG Cookies auto two summers back and two Planet of the Grapes clones early last year. I was not disappointed but I didn’t feel that I was able to bring out their best flavor in the dry and cure. I had my first experience with bud rot on the potg run so another reason I would be reluctant to give a review there. I would definitely like another crack at the strawberry. I really liked the bud structure and high calyx to leaf ratio. Fat buds and minimal trimming. I have pictures somewhere here :point_up_2:.

Post #245 has the best pictures of SOGC. Starts around #222. Planet of the Grapes was next so it is not too far from #245.

There’s a bloody battle going on over how to plant seeds as we speak. So much conflicting info out there it’s not an easy learning process.
