Auto's verses Photos

Just a Question to throw out there , I was wondering whether a photo is able to produce more THC because it takes longer to produce Buds I’m growing all photo plant’s outside this year and it’s definitely taking longer, I’m guessing they getting more Energy from the Sunlight :sun_with_face:

Looking good @Nip I see they have survived the heat very well. Good luck

The time a cannabis plant takes to ripen flower is the same for both autos and photos.

Looking great!

I believe the extra time typically means more yield. THC levels are more likely determined by genetics

The amount of THC the plant produces is determined by genetics for the most part.
As far as timing goes I have had photos mature as fast as 8 weeks in flower, and have had autos take as long as 12 or 13. The Grandaddy Purple photo period, even though it matured fast, was covered with resin. Even the larger leaves on the bud stalk had so much frost on them I had to leave most of the leaves on. But in the end some plants even when dripping with resin are not as strong as others. Genetics will determine how strong they are. We just have to give the best environment so the plant can do its thing.

Well stated Spiney!

Makes sense to me , I guess alot of factors determine the strength of plant’s, I have a Dwarf Gorilla Glue that is out smelling the rest ! I guess Dynamite comes in small Packages!

Yes and a Drought! Finally getting some rain, they were looking kinda bad at one point, water from the Sky can’t be Beat :sweat_drops:

Thanks Good Seeds make great Plants! So Basically Size means better yield in a way , not the strength

Love this topic as I’ve only grown photos outdoors but this season I have 2 autos going also …the first auto wasn’t even a month old and it started flowering …so I cannot wait for the other …I thought my photos last year came out really good for a first time grow and harvest …going to love comparing …but I like reading what @Spiney_norman wrote …just proves they are all different and have different needs and appetites and it’s important to lear what the plant needs by what you see it doing or not doing …
Happy growin everyone !!

This is a very interesting Topic, I always heard that growing seeds from a collected strain will produce a more potent plant every year, of course I buy my seeds now but back when I started Smoking most all my weed was seedy

By this do you mean …if you grow a plant and it gives you a seed or two you grow it again? I have a mob boss plant going …the harvesting of mob boss last year gave me one seed and that’s what I have growing …
I also remember all my weed was pretty seeded when I was younger and it still got me ripped …haha todays weed is much better and less seedier

Generation pot , I used to grow from a plant I collected seeds from and every year it got stronger, By accident i let a Male stay in the group, that’s how it started! But there was a Strain Called Red Haired Sensimillia , it had a very long tripping effect and no seeds, I haven’t seen any of it in years

@Spiney_norman nailed it, genetics, n environment, determine the amount of resin being produced. The same quality genetic seeds, grown by say 2 different peps, can vary dramatically because of the environment they r grown n. Bad environment means poor quality weed. With a great environment u can really get the lady’s phenos to express themselves. Usually n the form of color, n buds glistening with trichs. Love this topic as well, quality genetics r a prized possession.

Generally the answer to your question is yes photos produce more thc than autos of the same strain. For instance Blueberry autos produce about 14% THC and Blueberry photos produce about 18% @Nip

I have 2 bruce banner autos that flowered one at end of week 4 and one at end of week 3 . I also have 2 Northern light autos and one went into flower at end of week 2. I guess its the size of the plant. Because my NL are just as big as bruce banner autos

@OldSkunk is right, mainly because the auto versions are “watered down” so to speak with ruderalis strain. They TRY and keep as much of the genetics from the original by back breeding and cross breeding but it will never truly be the same genetic. It can’t be tho as an autoflower gene has been introduced.

Actually it’s a little bit of everything combined, environment, Strains , Nutrients, possibly Sunlight, Good Seeds like ILGM seeds , but I was thinking just like you said photos produce a little more THC , so the bottom line is the longer a plant grows without budding the more THC it’s capable of making through Sunlight and Nutrients

@Spiney_norman nailed it im learning it’s a combination of different things , If you’re plant’s are healthy and happy they will produce Quality Buds full of THC and Frosty Trichomes :sun_with_face:

Is a ruderalis a more compact plant that doesn’t get as tall , i remember seeing them introduced in High Times magazine, but it’s been awhile back
