Here’s my question
I have the ac infinity wicking auto pot base and use fabric pots
Can I use these with regular soil or do I need to use coco
@OGIncognito @Borderryan22 and maybe @Dman1969 may be of some help ![]()

Personally, I would use coco because of its fast drainage, would also add perlite. Some here use them for soil but I feel they stay too wet in soil . The Autopot guys will be along shortly….![]()
I’m on board with @Growdoc . I grow in coco using the self watering bases and don’t recommend soil. Soil needs a drought/drench cycle. The wicks keep the bottom 1/4 or so of your bags relatively damp. Thanks for the tag @StonedCold13 !
I’m with the others soil has to dry in between feedings ![]()

How about peat moss? Or mix of soil & peat?
Or if in soil, mix the bottom third with extra much perlite?
Man I really dont want to change my grows to coco…
I have the same setup with the AC Infinity Auto pot wicking system and 5 gallon fabric pots both filled with the bottom 3/4 of the pot with foxfarm ocean forest soiland the top 1/4 is foxfarm happy frog soil…
Do you do dry backs?
What do you mean by dry back I’m not familiar with the term I do occasionally let them dry just a bit if that’s what you’re referring to
That’s almost identical to the setup I was using
I do let the soil dry between refills for the Auto pots. If that’s what you mean by “dry backs”
I used the self watering bases with soil for part of my last grow and didn’t care much for them. Now I use the true autopot system and can’t imagine any other way. Side note: those bases are awesome for catching my runoff for my indoor veggies in the winter lol. ![]()
Using soil with AutoPots seems like a recipe for bugs to me. Most use a cocoa/perlite mixture
Promix is peat based, my fave. I wouldn’t mix them because peat has a ph need of 5.8-6.2, soil is 6.3-6.8.
My understanding is that for example Biobizz Light-Mix is part peat moss? I mean a mix of soil(organic matter) and peat? I see a lot of contradicting instructions of using the peat mixed with soil, some put even coco into the mix lol…
