Ask me anything!

I have used fox farms for every grow, having used h frog, o forest, and st fields. I have yet to open a bag and find the pH close enough to the mid 6 range for my liking. I have added lime to bring it up before but the happy frog I am about use is about 7.4 pH. A post I read a while back cautioned against doing too much to “fix “ bad pH is more likely to throw off the nutrient balance of the soil. What would be the best way to buffer without creating other imbalances?

Ah breeding question, and a great one I might add.

“Rodelization”
"When sinsemilla plants are left to go beyond their desirable maturation stage by a number of weeks, the plant, through whatever amazing processes evolution has bestowed, knows it has not been pollinated. As a last ditch effort at propagation, it will produce male pollen sacs in an effort to self-pollinate.

This is not the result of genetic or stress-induced hermaphroditism. They are genuine XX chromosome female bananas. With all the genetic information from the female and no Y chromosome, using rodelized pollen creates female-only seeds, although as with colloidal silver, an occasional male may appear." - RQS

This statement explains its, as I see fairly clearly.

Herms are different, by genetics, plants that are herms by seed or that are hermed due to stress will create herms seeds because its in their DNA now.
Where as Rodelization or using a chemical substance like Colloidal silver will produce true fem seeds, it depends on how the female plant induces its male parts as this will change the pollen and thus the seeds.

Even fem seeds have a small chance of producing a herm, but the chance is small.

So there you have it.

I don’t know what the rational there is, and I would have questioned that deeper.

Soil is not hand crafted for cannabis, many plants enjoy different PH’s.
The PH range for cannabis is well established and while I never did it when I started out in soil I would definitely adjust it if I was going to grow in soil today.
I could be wrong here to be honest but I just don’t see how, sitting at 7.4 is going to be slow growth and possibly nutrient issues in itself.

How did you test the PH?
The only accurate way to test PH in soil is by doing a soil slurry sample… So youtube that if your unaware.

Distilled water standard slurry test with apera ph20. Result was 7.4 so I did repeated “flushing “ of a solo cup adjusting and checking runoff until it was a stable 6.5. I did not toss the runoff, I kept pouring the same through to try to preserve the nutrients. It was a light nutrient solution around 200 ppm. Am I overthinking this? There’s nothing planted in this yet btw, just a buffering experiment since the soil is not reliable in that regard unfortunately.

I may have misinterpreted the information but here’s a link to the thread I was referencing

Exactly how do they make “Femenized” seeds?

Your run off TDS will be dependant on what soil your using exactly, happy frog will be less than ocean forest.
Soil also degrades slowly and makes more nutrients available but it’s a rather slow process for growing cannabis and that’s why few experienced cannabis growers grow in soil (that have done alot of research) but you should be getting above 900 TDS in a true run off.

Explained above.
Use a chemical to turn a female to male and then pollinate a female

@Nicky What are your thoughts on 12/12 seed to harvest, then reveg for mother plant? Thinking bonsai style for just small home grow. How would you treat the first couple of weeks vpd wise?

I’m not a fan of 12/12 seed to harvest, nor am I gas lantern after all I’ve seen on this forum. The point of veg stage is for a plant to grow, cannabis makes use of 60 DLI so why starve it of energy when LED’s power usage is so cheap?

I think re veg is also a waste of time, ide rather cut a couple clones and toss them in a window while I flower my plant (greenhouse/tent is better but make due with what you have of course as long as it’s more than 12 hr of light).

In the start of veg you want really high humidity, but a VPD chart tells us what we need to know.

I hate to be the no, no, no person but what I’m also all about efficiency and that is what has lead me to thousands of hours of growing and researching cannabis.
So my question to you is why are you thinking about going with these strategies?

@Nicky Thinking more of this to be able to have a couple of different strains in a mother bonsai form to pull clones from and grow 12/12 clone to harvest, or small veg time, in 1 or 3 gal containers as harvest weight is not as big of a deal for me as variety would be, I only need about an OZ a month. Currently 2- 2x2 tents, one 6ft the other 4ft. I have a clone dome with light on the way as well as a small clone tent. Space is very limited.

Thought SOG every 10 or so weeks

I’m new to growing auto’s i have a grow going now ILGM GDP’S and they look awful. Im growing in FF OF i talked to somebody on the buy seeds page and they said OF was too hot for auto’s. getting ready to start over with a grow of ILGM GDP’S or LSD i have OF soil and HF soil is either of these soils good to grow in? Or should i go in a completely different direction? Thanks in advance

Thanks! I have pretty good humidity 40-60% and don’t wanna risk too much humidity ( live by the ocean) and also the app doesn’t seem to be with apple. The jack123 but which one? Hard to tell which is for veg

Thanks for all the great info. I’m afraid my question got lost in the excess of details I gave. I’m up to speed with tds/ppm. I live in Virginia and suspect it’s possible the ff soil available locally have aged in transit. The pH is way off, usually low, in every bag I’ve ever bought. The current batch is surprisingly off in the alkaline direction. Not incredibly high but it bothers me if the soil pH isn’t between 6-7 starting a new grow. I was asking for your opinion about the best way to buffer soil in prep for transplanting seedlings to fvr homes. Thanks again, sorry everyone for hogging the thread.

Hello this is my third year growing and I feel like it’s always my first or at least something is new each year making it feel like my first. This year I got me a greenhouse and I plan on growing 5 runtz inside my greenhouse in white 10 gallon grow bags and 5 gg4 outside in my garden. My seeds have all germinated and I planted them in 4” pot using fox farm potting soil. I am trying to go organic this year which @HippieRunner1 has been so nice to help me with that. My question is can I use greenhouse during the day and take them inside to grow lights at night? The temps inside my greenhouse got down to 41 degree F and outside temp got down to 28. Right now as the sun is shining it’s 47 outside and 75 inside the greenhouse and humidity is at 67%. My seedlings are starting pop above the soil and my worry is the different type of lighting sun/grow lights. Changes in temps as well

Hello, I have a beautiful harvest of black berry kush and mago kush. Im ready to harvest my product noticed that I have spider mites on product almost started crying. Can I wash in a solution without ruining my product. Please any advise is well appreciated.

Also was told to use 1 part alchohol to 9 parts water. I’m afraid to do that will it effect my finished product with a weird taste??

Well you have a clone tent ide keep my mother and clones in there.
Plants will veg faster and that way your always flowering in your flower tent. More stains will come with more yield because you’ll have a bunch of a strain and won’t have to grow it for quite some time.
Anyways that’s what I would do, or buy another 6ft tent and keep your clones in a window.

False

You are better to layer your soil, happy frog is ideal for early growth. I’ll have to link you how to do this.

I would strongly recommend going with coco and Jack’s 321 nutrients though, your plants will grow double as fast and yield big, it’s also alot less complex.
However you can grow tasty bud with good yeils in soil it just takes more work and experience.
Also between you me and the fence post I don’t like ILGM genetics but their auto genetics are less than desirable from what I’ve seen on the forum…but they grow bud and many still yeild okay.
Sorry for the negative feedback… But it’s honest.

In veg you can do 100% humidity if the temperature is correct.
Jack’s 321, ignore all their marketing.
You want part A, part B and magnesium sulfate aka Epson salts (unscented, can buy them at wallmart or whatever)
The app is with Apple, “photone”

Yes you can, they don’t mind. The better the environment the better. Do you have a setup? Why not just do fully indoor then?

I prefer growing outside than inside. I only have grow lights just to get my vegetables and MJ plants get started. I like nature better than man made things. I think I’ll just keep them inside for one moth till it gets warmer outside.
