Ask me anything!

Have you looked into DLI? If you would like, download the app photone and it’ll help you tremendously with light intensity settings. Took all the guesswork out for me. If you choose to go that route I can walk you through it.

Here’s a couple charts I use that someone graciously shared with me last year. Can’t remember who it was, but thank you again for passing it on!

How is your intake/ exhaust set up?
Co2 is the most common bottleneck of a decent grow. Hopefully your exhausting the tents used air outside of your house?

@Jonesy287 have your read my DLI thread?

I would disagree with that chart a bit after following Dr. Bruce BUGBEE’s research and my own personal experience

I have not read it. Open to learn more as always though!!! Would you mind tagging me or however you do it so I can read through your research and findings?

I’m watering every 3 days to make sure they get a dry spell in between. They dont look off at all. Just seemed to stop growing…it could just be like you said. I need to stop looking in the window at them so much…i hope

I have it set uo pretty good. Its an ACinfinity 6 inch filter and exhaust fan and a 6 inch fan blowing around inside of the tent aimed at the tops. I have been running the exhaust fan only on level 1 or 2… i just bumped it up today to 4 thinking it wasnt enough circulation.

It sure is.

I’ve not used it, I’m not much use in that department. I’ll be on standby, but it looks like plenty of excellent cooks in the kitchen already. :v:

VPD and DLI are very good suggestions. Photone is the app I use to measure DLI, it may not be perfect but it’s a good starting point.

Also, 3 days could be too often for watering depending on the specific plant, I’ll usually wait for my plants to show some wilting before watering.

Yes, i have been watching DLI/ppfd and the VPD. …VPD has been teatering at 1.4 to 1.6. Little high i think… RH is 58-61 temp stays at 79-84 F.
How do i alter VPD? More humidity correct?

VPD is based on temp and humidity working together.

I can’t find the chart on my phone but have one at home. If someone doesn’t post it first I’ll post it when I get home.

Thank you.
I have also been noticing that they dont grow as tall as when they are outside. The node spacings are very short. I have started all 6 of these outside. One is about 10 days ahead of the other 5. These were all bag seeds. Im sure im going to end up with a couple males. This is why im wondering so much about node spacing. Males seem to have thiner stalks and grow faster, im told.

If the node spacing is tighter chances are it’s because they are getting more DLI and not stretching which is good. If you want them to stretch more you can always back your lights off a little

This is exactly what i was thinking. So, i have enough lighting then. Im running an HLG 300L Respec and 200Rspec and ive had them tuned down a few notches. So, what do i go and do…, i turned them all the way up both to 10 thinking this is why they’re not gaining height. But, i have it backwards and im probably overkill at full power but i measured the PPFD with the photone app and only get about 575 ish all over the canopys. I think i still need another light. But i called HLG today and the tech said i should be getting way more light than that. It should be well over 575 at full power 2 feet away.
I had the sunlight setting on my photone app and i changed it to LED full spectrum and the readings bumped up to way over 1000 ppfd’s. I read to use the sunlight setting because it was more accurate. Which one is correct?

Im sorry… i grow alot of vegetables and herbs outdoors. This indoors growing stuff is confusing the crap out of me…lol… … im going to adjust to this if it kills me…

I’m not familiar with these lights but if you look them up it should tell you what PPFD output they do at 100% at say 12" away. If you haven’t calibrated your app yet you’ll need to do that using the manufacturers claimed value.

Once PPFD is set to the manufacturer’s recommendation it adjusts all the other values to follow suit. I use DLI and so do a lot of other growers but a lot of successful growers use PPFD instead. I think it’s a personal preference thing.

Sorry for all the edits, I’m texting between stops while driving lol

What if i have 2 lights? I just add their total ppfd’s together and put that into the app then hold it 12 inches under them at 12 inches. Right?

Typically PPFD is higher at the center of the light. Not sure how you go about it with two completely different lights. I run two of the exact same lights in my tent. I just base it off the center point of one light and then can get DLI anywhere in the tent

I calculate my DLI on an average of the ppfd readings across the entire canopy, regardless of 1 light or 2. For example in my 4x6 closet, about 4x5 of it is plant space under the main grow light. I’ll get readings in about 10 - 12 spots, average them out, and thats the ppfd value I enter into a DLI calculator.

Thank you… i pretty much got the whole picture on the scheme of things with lights. Im pretty sure im set with lightning. Im still considering on getting another light and keeping the 200Rspec for a separate grow space where i can experiment or keep it for a germination station and seedling rooting place.
