I don’t think they hurt plants. They are beneficial in that they eat aphids and other soft-bodied insects that damage plants.
They are pest because they prevent good lady bugs from securing their place.
In the fall they cluster and try to enter the house and hide behind everything. And they actually bite.
Just my opinion, No bug on my plants that I didn’t put there are good bugs. SQUISH!! 
Dont squish those asian beetles, they do not smell good. Ladybug style bugs are good for having around.
They eat the pests we pay money for products to get rid of. Rejoice in their presence
Those things will take over your house. I squish
