Are these small buds going to get bigger?

Ok ok I am well aware of the fact I’m nuts!

Pics make them look fat but they are not, beautiful yes!! Fat no!

I flipped the lights October 28th to flower, I already posted a thread a few days ago to ask approx how long till harvest. However I have 2 plants that the tricomes are already very amber and the buds are very small? You can see from the first pic that the main cola is smaller than my 2 little fat fingers? It seams like they haven’t puffed up at all in the last couple weeks, i’m sure it doesn’t help that I look at them 3200 times a day. Any thoughts? I was told they have at least 4 more weeks but the amber tricombs are making me think sooner? Please help my paranoid ass. Thank you all! I love this group!! Very cool stuff!! Where you at outlaw?

Looking good.
Allowing 10-14 days for transition to flower from flip they are about 4 weeks in flower, so another 4 weeks minimum I’d say, depending on the strain it could be upwardes of 10 more weeks.
They are little cuz they are just getting started.
They got alot more growing to do still yet

Idk about the trichomes, I’ve never had any amber so early

I bet the amber yo see is on the leaves, not the buds. I agree with @1HappyPappy

Pic 2 and 3. Nothing on the leaves, most of the pistols are all brown or amber? I don’t recall this with my outdoor grow last summer

@Mjm697 what strain is this and what does the seed bank say is the flowering time for this strain?

If you want to tag outlaw add an @Outlaw to his name. The @ is the key to notifications.

There are still a fair amount of white pistils on them, and it looks like they still need to fill out more.

Like GreggT said, the amber trichomes might be on the leaves. Ensure that you are scoping the buds; it can be tricky, so try to get right on the buds.

They are pretty buds. :grinning: :+1:

So as the buds grow there will be a bunch a white hairs explode and they slowly turn dark, then another explosion of white hairs and then they turn dark.
Most strains will have 3 “bursts” of pistols.
Pic 2-3 apear to me their fisrt burst has turned dark and its working on its next set.
The other pic apear to be slightly behind and still in the middle of there first burst…

No one really ever explains this.
We hear people say “when the hairs ALL trun brown”. Not explaining that this happens in steps .

Honestly this is best way to go.

  1. if the strain info says 8 weeks or whatever it is, dont worry about hairs or trichomes till that time.
  2. At 8 weeks then look at the appearance, are most all the hairs brown?
    If so then
  3. Look at trichomes under magnification, being sure to look at the actual part of the plant that the hairs grow out of and not trichomes on leafy bits…

Hope that helps

Aww. They will grow into happy gals …let them get their plump on. Let those pistils recede and then check the trichs on the buds only.

I don’t see them swelling much more. Looks to be on the edge of harvest without seeing trich shots.

I’m with the consensus. My gg4 autos are about five weeks into flower and look a lot like yours, buds and all. I’m guessing you’re growing a sativa dominant strain. Comparing gg4 to zkittlez autos it looks like that means a lot more buds that are smaller. My zkittlez had 8-10 fat buds each. These gg4 are just covered in little buds everywhere. I’m hoping mine fatten up more in the weeks to come. I think we’re in the same boat right now and I’d bet it’ll work out just fine for both of us.

Thank you, makes sense, flowering time is 8weeks for my plants, I flipped the light cycle on October 28th, so I will at least ignore them for another couple weeks, and then I’ll return to crazy land :grinning:

This sounds pretty general, but lets look at whats actually happening during bud formation, and where the majority of trichomes actually are.
The hairs, connect to the internal parts of a ovule… the place where a seed would form if the hair was pollenated. To protect this ovule from pests and en ironmental issues, the plant secretes a sticky resin, many plants do this. The majority of this resin is on or directly around the ovule ( the bud meat ) the stuff we want! When the ovule is getting mature it swells, which increases both the surface area and mass, as well as increased resin production. Each pair of hairs connects to the potential seed pod. If the ( hairs ) keeping it layman here , are still viable and not brown or shriveled, the ovule can still swell and produce more mass etc. At some point new ovules stop being produced, and thus no new hairs. Generally, once you see no new hairs and the majority of those left are done, its time to decide when to harvest.

this is too early as there is still too many being formed, still can fatten up a bit
this is getting a bit closer to done. You dont really need a microscope when you know the stages of ripeness

You are correct, you can get in the window for sure.
But take these 2 strains i got going now for example.

This twisted cookies has very swollen and mature ovules with no new pistols in over a week.
But her trichomes are still half clear.
She is “in the window”, i could harvest her now.
But should I?
Absolutely not, because i want the most potency i can get. So I’ll be watching trichomes daily fir the next couple of weeks…

Now theres this crinkle cut strain beside it that has lots of fresh white hairs left but her trichomes are alot more cloudy then then the twistedcookies.

I could harvest her now based of her trichomes, but I want as I know she will grow more.

So yeah I agree, you don’t have to microscope before harvest, but you should for optimal results

Definately helps to use a microscope especially if the strain is new to you. I grow landraces that I have planted for several years now and I already know what to expect. The hashish growers tend to run the plants as long as absolutely possible for the most ( ripe ) ? Resin and the greatest possible production. I tend to run mine less because I dont want such a strong narcotic effect with my hashish. The modern hybrids are kinda funny the way some of them finish, especially the fact that many of you are using artificial sun… that makes a HUGE difference in how buds finish. Also, you dont have the cold nights and warm days. In general, the landraces dont produce huge stacked buds like those you have. Mostly they are less compact, but not always, and they are less bulky.
The plants I grow are quite exceptional for wildies! Take this Lebanese as an example… lovely growth habit and decent bud sizes.

Some of these are not small producers bro…

This shot is pre flower! Thats my wife below them doing something? Not really sure what to be honest.
And heres a row of Tashkurghan, really nice pot!
