New grower here and on batch 3 and things went south quickly with this batch of 5 autoflowers. I have 5 auto plants that had leaf issues soon after LST and grew much smaller than any previous plants I have. BUT while the leaves are and have been horrible, the buds look really really nice. There have been zero insect issues.
My question is, are these buds ok to harvest and smoke? They look thick and beautiful and lots of crystals - no sign of bugs at all - no signs of mold or anything weird on the buds themselves.
Pictured is 3 plants auto ak-47: 2 plants auto og Kush. I used fox farms ocean forest(or whatever it’s called) soil. They are in 3 gallon fabric containers (what I think may be a source of the small height). I waited 4 weeks to give nutrients and they are at around week 8. I gave minimal nutrients and only water in between. No pesticides.
Thanks. Yeah I’m not going to harvest them yet. Giving it more time and watching the trichomes. Thank you. Mainly just wonder on if the weird leaf issues I experienced do anything that makes them better to toss out even if the buds are nice.
Like…idk what threw these plants off… but if it was a nutritient imbalance or anything, does it make them worthless for smokeability.
Yeah Welcome to the community , buds will be fine follow up by checking PPM an PH run off. Make adjustments accordingly to get to the finish line. Plants look to have had nute burn along the way. Just my thoughts good luck.
Thank you! Definitely high chance of nute burn. I did a poor job logging data on this batch. Sometimes they didn’t get watered enough. Sometimes I thought I had a nute problem and tried to compensate in ways. Plus never watered until significant runoff was achieved bc my drainage trays on it are so annoying. Also switched the light from a 100 watt to a 200 watt around preflower bc I needed to swap lights in tents. I did measure the the light and adjust it accordingly but several things went wrong in this batch. But the buds look great still. I thought they’d all end up in that garbage but the buds keep getting nicer regardless of the ugly leaves.
Thank you! Definitely will remove the dead and yellow from the buds and these plants seem to suck the leaves dead within days and I keep pulling off the full yellow ones constantly. I’m curious what I did wrong exactly but there are so many variables on this grow. And I still must have done something right. These plants are around 14-22" tall only but the buds are around 2" in diameter on a few. Biggest buds I’ve ever had, on the weirdest smallest plants!
Quite possible. I had a real struggle with these trying to figure out their needs. Being a new grower, the difference between over feeding issues and under feeding issues can seem like a real mystery - being that the issues are so far ranging and symptoms similar to each other.
I had another tent going with nice, thriving healthy plants and it’s a time consuming thing all around, so this tent often got the short end of the stick. I almost just scrapped it a few times but now I’m glad I didn’t
Thank you for your time in looking and response! Really means the world…all these responses. This stuff is confusing.
What strain? To me looks like your light is to close to tops. Stop with nutes and just use plain water. Fox farm ocean forest has plenty inside with out anything added in my experience and never go more than 1/2 strength of you do add nutes after week 6… also you still have many weeks before these are finished. Minimum is 12 weeks from seed with most of mine taking closer to 14 weeks from seed.
Here is a auto Zkittles just a few days short of 14 weeks…
Looks gorgeous, holy shit! Those buds are massive!! Unless you have teeny tiny hands, those buds are thick!! Haha. I have likely harvested too early in the past and that’s a great lesson in waiting and patience
The plants are a mix. 5 plants: 3 auto ak-47 and 2 auto og-kush. Since they all seemed to experience the exact same issues, I can rule out strain as something that changed the height or anything.
Hahahaha actually have pretty big hands can palm a basketball… so thanks they seriously came out gigantic! I massively defoliate… left only 6 main branches and trimmed off everything hanging low. Just makes life easier… I can trim out an entire plant in under 5 min. Just my technique everyone is different! Usually get 1.5-2 oz per auto plant.
That said do you have a magnifier?? Cut off a leaf that’s yellow and take a peak at the under side… mites are hard to spot with the naked eye… I had a super lemon haze that was looking similar. Took a closer look and it was mites. Here is a pic showing the eggs!!
I’ve watched every overwatering underwatering and nutrient video on YouTube and it turns into a fuzzy mess. I had too much on my plate with this plant. I do have a magnifying lens and I will look right now. Thank you for that note! I will reply with the answer. If it does indeed have mites like that, is it still harvestable?
And after several plants, that sounds like an amazing technique. I spent 4 hours yesterday trimming one plant coming out of the dry tent. And I have spent 6+ hours before on trims. It’s a friggin hastle.
Take a look at that link it’s not just a over/under watering. It’s actually the best tool I have found to diagnose any issue. For real take 5 min it will save you hours of research!
Yeah definitely still Harvestable… what I did was take the plant out side and take off any big damaged leaves and then get a jet spray nozzle for the hose and throughly take every branch and spraying from every angle. This will knock off 90% of mites. Then to stay organic I take 4 Tbs of cinnamon and soak it in a protein shaker bottle which is like 32oz of water for 24 hours shaking it several times over the day … the cinnamon powder will style to the bottom so make sure not to shake for the last 10 hours… slowly pour off the liquid at the top leaving behind as much of the gunk at the bottom as you can… then take that liquid mix with gallon of water and spray that plant down like crazy paying extra attention to under side of leaves… then set them in front of a fan on high so they dry out… ps do this with lights out so they don’t get burned. After this if you are lucky you will get through flower with out them coming back
