Apera Ph60 unstable readings

I bought this a couple of months ago. The issue is the ph will just continue to slowly drop.

The “smiley face” pops up but the ph just continues to drop.

Anyone else have this issue. I will call Apera customer service tomorrow.

Probably a bad probe. Do you keep it in storage solution?

I have the pH20 it takes a few seconds for the final reading. It will drop after I use pH down. It reads as it goes down. If it takes longer than a couple seconds I would change the batteries. It speeds it up considerably.

Yeah. It came with some and said…

Brand new batteries

Did you go thru the calibration set up??

Yep. All 3

What’s the ppm of the solution? If it’s low ppm it can take a while to settle. Or is that your calibration solution?

Well water. Last time I checked it was ppm of 50 and a ph of 8.1.

I tried ph’ing my well water again.

On another note. Can you ph RO water accurately?

No, you can’t. That 50ppm is not going to ph correctly either. No need to ph water with that low of ppm

I think I need to learn more about testing water.

Actually I just checked my manual. I guess this one is sensitive enough to pick up ph of RO, just not distilled or deionized so if you have a deionizer filter on you RO system it won’t work. But it really doesn’t matter. That low of ppm will just take on the soils ph so no need to adjust it. Also didn’t realize this meter could be stuck directly in the soil.

@BobbyDigital I think you have to get the interchangeable ground probe to test soil. I know when I ordered my PH60 kit I had to choose which probe I wanted included out of several different choices.

Good call! It does say with the ph60s. Thanks for that!

Interesting info on short and long term storage. My Apera 20 takes longer than expected to balance out, I’ll give it a little shake or stir to clear any bubbles. I’ve been storing short term in tap water :thinking:

Thanks for the tip. I get impatient with mine too and it probably needs a new battery now that I think about it.

OP: Are you trying to test pH or PPM with a PPM around 50? You won’t get valid readings if so and it may well bounce around trying to get a reading. There aren’t enough ions in the water for a pH to exist.

I have exactly the same pH meter I like to do a two point calibration with fresh clean 4 and 7 solution. After calibration of meter put in a bottle of 7 solution should read a steady 7 pH. If slow getting there I changed batteries if bouncing around and does not stabilize I would change the probe (eye ) about 30 bucks. I have changed mine one time in several years. Good luck

Thanks… mine is brand new.

Just gonna confirm that the ground probe is indeed a different tip. Also use a 60.

This is the soil tip. Or “swiss spear”
