I know I’m late to the dance on this thread but thought I’d post just to see any updated info anyone may have. I dropped a an Ethos Apex bag seed in this soil and it sprouted just over a month ago and is growing like crazy in an outside pot.
I’m waiting on my Spider Farmer grow tent to arrive so I can try to finish it off. I expect a hermie though with the street and porch lights in the neighborhood but We’ll see.
All I’ve done so far is water it with tap that I let sit outside to evaporate the chlorine. The local PH is just under 7.0 and the water is pretty soft.
I don’t plan on adding any nutrients at all just as an experiment and will post my future findings here to help another newby sometime down the road.
One other thing, This soil seems to stay wet so it’s really hard to tell when to water. I usually just give about 1 1/2 cups every other day. I did saturate it once and it didn’t need water for 4 days and wasn’t really dry even then.
If you are moving it indoors you may not have a hermie problem. The plant needs to be sexually matured for a hermie to happen and she may not be there yet. The quicker you can get her in a controlled environment the better.
Cannabis prefers wet and dry cycles. I water my plants every 4 days so that the soil dries almost completely out before watering. This is assuming a soil grow (versus coco.) Overwatering can lead to an unhappy plant roots, it attracts bugs, and can lead to mold/mildew. I’ve even seen a case where a grower actually had algae in his pot due to overwatering.
Thanks MidwestGuy. The grow tent should be here the 18th so hopefully she’ll still be in Veg stage when it arrives. I guess I’ll start with 16/8 lighting to pretty much match what’s going on outside and keep the light a little further away at first then feel it out from there.
I ended up with 2 plants in the MG Performance Organics when I ran out of FFHF. We don’t have a local source for FF so in a pinch I had to do what I had to do.
The nutrients in the soil must not be much because within a month both pots were showing deficiencies so I started FF nutes.
This Super Skunk was kicked out of the tent because it wouldn’t train easily. The first branch I went to bend snapped right off - I saved it with electrical tape and 3 weeks later is doing fine and nearly tripled in size outside in the sun. The other SS in the tent trained easily. I have to attribute the stiffness of the booted one to the soil - the only difference in treatment of the two plants. (edit: Maybe the MG has higher silica content than Happy Frog?)
That was a week ago - she’s even bigger now! About halfway down the plant you can see discolored fans that were struggling with the lack of nutrients, above you see the good green growth from the FF feeding.
This Granddaddy Purple is in LAST YEARS tomato soil LOL! Which is a 50-50 mix of regular MG and bagged garden soil with perlite added. Her and her sister(same soil mix) are over 6ft at this point and bushing up nicely! For 100% indica plants, that generally remain short and bushy, I’m happy with the results…so far…a couple of months to go!
The Organics soil doesn’t have the little time release pellets like the yellow bag MG and HF soil also has 4-6 weeks of nutrients “built in”, so really - what’s the difference?
Soil is important to the growth obviously, but “bad” soil can be overcome with a little work.
I need to do some research into “inert” soils. I’d like to find a soil that has nothing but dirt in it, so to speak. It’s kind of a PITA to determine when to start feeding when there’s nutes in the soil for the plant to eat. Plants don’t consume all the nutrients available at the same rate. So while the soil may be depleted of nitrogen it might still be rich in others and I can see where that could cause problems when using a broad spectrum nutrient.
Just my 0.02!
Good Luck and Happy Growing Everyone!
sorry - second pic was wrong, had a NYD in front of it! LOL!
Here’s the GDP’s
Both of these ladies are in the same crap soil from last years tomato grow.
Both have received FF nute by the schedule with CalMag on “plain water” days.
The first GDP might look a little fuller than it is - it is quite full - but there’s a 6’ New York Diesel right behind her! The NYD’s are in Happy Frog and were planted a month later. BUT - NYD is a hybrid sativa/Indica, GPD is 100% Indica.
