So I’m growing two gelato auto flowers from seedsupreme one is doing beautifully the other is not. both above ground since 6/27 the one with issues had helmet head and is now progressing very slowly and has this weird orange spotting going on. it isnt spreading to the other plant and it doesnt rub off so its not rust mold
With the amount of green algae I’d have to assume over watering
One rooted better then the other and could handle it
Its been doing this since it popped its shell i only recently watered them with a full watering at first i was doing my usual watering routine of only about 10ml a day so I dont think its over watering the soil use tends to develop algee quickly but it usually only lasts till the top layer drys out then stops reoccurring i watered them about 4-5 days ago and uts been growing including new branches everything is just small and slow going
The new growth does look good for now
Just baby it for a bit I reckon
Yeah i guess thats all I can really do i mean the lights are on either way and I dont need the space so i guess well see how it goes
Any time you have that much green algae, there’s too much moisture and you’re not letting it dry back enough. Overwatered plants can have symptoms from PH out of balance to deficiency and more. It’s the most common mistake growing, hands down.
I literally watered bone dry almost hydrophobic soil once so far and its literally being done the same way I’ve always done it with the same brand of soil and the other auto as well as the photo i have going are doing just fine its not overwatering i know that would seem the likely culprit but I can guarantee you in this instance its not theres something else causing it it does seem to be out growing it through very slowly
PH swings can cause it too, and I’ve had it happen to some plants Iin a grow and not others. PH swings not as likely in soil though, although FF is known for iffy PH out of bag sometimes. I’m trying to wrap my head around how you have that algae and only watered once. I had it happen beginning of this grow with some I started from seed, they were beautiful and one morning had the orange spots just like yours. They would improve, new growth looked good and couple days later, dead leaves again. I ended up throwing them outside and they started coming around, so I repotted them from coco to my Promix and here they are a few weeks later. Sometimes they can just be a little bish and drive you nuts until you figure it out.
I dont know im using promix organic the algee literally forms over night after the first drenching but literally I’ll cover it over with some fresh soil for the second drenching after the soil drys back out and it won’t reoccur this has literally been every grow i do thats why the algee doesn’t concern me too much the only thing i did different was i usually start the autos in a smaller pot and pot up once this time i decided to plant directly in to there final home i honestly dont see any upside over potting up once
Its what i always use i mix a blend of this in a 3-1 ratio mixed with worm castings no other soil amendments
Yep, that’s not the Promix most here use, that has nutes in it, time release, plus the castings you added . I’m betting the water released a good bit of nutes in the affected plant and either the other is tough enough to take it, which isn’t likely, or it just didn’t have the same concentration of nutes. Time release is what makes Miracle Grow dirt so hard to grow weed in. When those nutes release, they are undiluted and have a very low ph until they are buffered somewhat and-or diluted. Problem is every time you water to dilute them, more are released. Hope that makes sense. My mouth can’t relay what my brain wants to say sometimes…
Im going to disagree with the time released nutes i dont belive this soil works that way I appreciate the help but I think you want to apply common solutions to an uncommon problem after all the most likely solution is usually the correct one but i just don’t think thats whats going on here worm castings are ph neutral you can literally grow in pure worm castings with no nute burn so I dont see that being the issue either
You see the ingredient list above
Nothing to time release
I just read the ingredients, sorry, my bad! I thought it had TR nutes in it, mabey that’s the red one at Wally World. I had the exact same thing in the problem children which are great now, but I had tons of issues with them , fine one morning, dead leaves everywhere the next, ended up putting them outside and they started getting better so I potted them into Promix and brought them back in, it’s my current grow and zero issues since, but I’ve never pinpointed the root cause of it. It showed just like yours, looked like ph the whole time, but ph would check fine in runoff and media slurries. Hope she straightens out for you.
I grew with that for over a year with no issues. Added perlite w/ it.
They quit selling it here.
Switched to promix hp.
No complaints either way.
When I used the hp I had good results they actually stopped selling it by me which is why I started using the organic version
I buy BX , but because of price. We have an Amish greenhouse near that sells me big bales for $38, almost half what hardware stores want for it. And the Amish use a lot, so it doesn’t sit around. I’m happy with it, just add lots of perlite for the Autopots.
That’s something I didn’t think about. The Amish or Mennonites stores lol great idea.
I went with the Wife first trip to look at flowers and crap, while in there, I looked up on a loft above part of the store and there were several Fox Farm five gallon buckets, so I started up a convo with the old man in there. I asked him a couple simple questions that could apply to most plants. First thing he said was “ medicinal?” I just nodded and he gave me the exact answer I was expecting. Think I know what the do in the winter now.
