I put sod down last year and my yard looks pretty magnificent. I fertilize the sod and the hedges but they’re cut by the HOA.
I maintain 4 robust and beautiful window boxes, but watering them makes me want to die. I need to run the drip irrigation to them or they’re going to die, I really do hate hand watering them. My wrists hurt so much after. I hate the weather here, it’s always extreme, I’m not much of an outdoor person.
I have 4 medium sized house plants that I hate but take care of. My husband thinks they make the house cozy so I’m trying for him.
I have not tried to grow any myself, I do have a cherry plum in the front yard. I wonder if jujube would grow in my area well? I do graft sometimes, and would love the chance to get some scions! I am re-creating my great grandma’s orchard, but some varieties are pretty impossible to find now, they are so old. If you come across a Patten’s greening, let me know!!
Been growing organic veg for decades. It’s been a vey strange growing season here in upstate NY, but when one crop does poorly (potatoes after a very late freeze), another will love it (we’re drowning in cucumbers. These are a few of our regular crops.
I currently only have the remaining trees left…Orange,Mandarin,Lemon and a grafted apple tree (3 varieties) and a Blueberry bush.Along with those currently I used to have an Apricot,Cherry,Plum a 2 variety grafted peach/nectarine tree and a reg. Nectarine tree…along with growing bell peppers ,Chili peppers,Heirloom and hybrid tomatoes…Herbs…etc etc…This and that happened along the way and the last few years along with the aforementioned fruits …I grow mostly weed now, Ive been thinking about restarting my Tomatoes again because I hate the tasteless pieces of They sell at stores…But I dunno…?
I hear that. My kids used to yell at me for picking tomatoes off of burgers. They are old enough now that this years tomatoes convinced them I was right and store ones have no taste. I even considered trying a tomato plant in my tent this winter. @Lostgirl has done it with success!!
If I could just get the weed plants outta there.
Tomatos are fairly easy. Im not sure if theres a better way to do it but what i do is base it on when ima use the Tomatos. Like if ima use them within the week ill pull them while they are still somewhat green as they will contiune to ripen if left out on the counter and that kinda gives you a longer shelf life. If i plan on using same day or within a day or 2 i wait till they are fully red and ripe
