Amber Trichomes

Really appreciate 2 replies. I moved to flowering on 4/10/25 in the sense of lighting 12 on, 12 off. Although it’s my 2nd grow, I missed recording when I actually started to seeing them flower. I’m seeing amber on pistils in the pics although not all the pistils, so what you guys are saying sounds right, they need more time. Still, I’m encouraged. They’re beautiful. Thanks again and glad to be part of the forum,

Well now I would say the quality is just as good. I’ve grown a lot that was kick ass but I’m referring to the taste. That’s what I miss. I haven’t come across that taste in over 50 yrs. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Really nice looking buds. Raises another question pertaining to harvest from my first grow which was White Widow. When I harvested I just cut the main stem and hung them upside down inside my tent with the correct conditions: dark, temp in the low 60s, and rH at 55%. It was a good slow dry that lasted about 2 week. When I was done with the dry and going to cure, I didn’t know how to handle the sugar leaves. They had curled somewhat around the bud but didn’t really seem to be part of the bud so I kind of rolled the buds around until I didn’t have the sugar leaves but I ended up with smaller buds. The first grow was a White Widow (Indica dominant with THC @ 19). I actually like a weed that doesn’t knock me out and I found the White Widow to be relaxing without making me stupid. That’s why I wanted to go with ILGM’s Sativa mix because I wanted to try to grow an ass kicker just to see if my White Widow turned out as it was supposed to and not weak due to my grow errors. What do you do with those sugar leaves that grow wout of the bud itself?

I know what you mean. Sometimes I prefer a less potent smoke too.

Here’s a good link to read about what to do with them. Myself I just throw them away or take them out and give to the rabbits. You outta see them hop then.
You can probably find info on this site also. This is the first one that came up so check it out.

Thanks for the article. I’m not all that interested in using the sugar leaves, although the article mentioned making a sugar leaf tea and I’ll probably give that a go. I guess it’s just not clear to me. Do I use a good sharp scissors and cut the sugar leafs off at the time that I hang them upside down in my tent or do I do as I did with my White Widow grow, let them curl around the bud during dry and then roll the bud a little to knock off those don’t seem to be part of the bud itself. When I buy at a dispensary, the buds seem to be so large without evidence of sugar leaves. I’m sure I’ll never grow as well as a a commercial facility but I’d love to get some big buds.

You can trim wet or dry. They’ll just dry a bit quicker trimmed. Tomato tomoto. I do both but I think it’s easier when wet. It’s easier to snip off those small sugar leaves Imo.

You’ll get to them big buds. I like the Kush varieties. They make a nice thick bud.
There’s just too many to pick from.

Agreed , hard to get that taste . All the terpenes have been messed with from the interbreeding to get higher thc levels which are not necessary . I miss my Thai . And good Afghani hash . The world has lost its soul . Swapped it for thc . LOL .

Absolutely correct @Templeballs If you didn’t live that era you’ll never know how good the smell and taste was. Too many hands stirring the pot, haha ,as it were today. The 60’s and 70’s were the best times. I bought a landrace Columbia Gold that was supposed to be like the original. It was the most lame refer I ever tasted or grew. The smell, buzz and taste was crap. Your right,we don’t need those high thc numbers.

Yeah , the sixties and seventies were a great time here as well , I used to have the actual G13/Airborne strain , arguably the equal of anything I ever had . Even the huge fan leaves were dynamite with a covering of flat trichomes that would turn a beautiful milky colour . There was no getting rid of leaf of trimmings , it was all top shelf , I one grew it in gravel with hardly any nutrient and only water n PK for flower . Y’know , people still talk about that stuff , I was a legend for a while lol . I’m betting it’s not the same today . Ha , I’ve grown plants from bag seed that were better than pretty much anything on the market today . What have they done . Peace .

Sex, drugs and rock-n-roll, yes, that was a great time to be in. Worked at a gas station in 69. We had a tank that was 18 cents a gallon. Most expensive was 35 cents ,93 octane.
I’m off subject, gotta buzz.
When the top shelf stuff came around you were lucky to a get a oz or less. I got a 1/4 oz one time. It was the ultimate best shit I ever tasted. There were 2 seeds in it so I had to plant them. I put em in 2 jiffy pot pellets on my window sill in my bedroom. They popped and as soon as the 2 first single leaves came on I was walking past them and I got that real old time skunky smell. I didn’t think it could be them but it was. I made up some good soil and it was a once in a lifetime grow. 2 plants made me 3K and enough to last me for 6 months. Bat guano tea and my siphoning the gravel from my fish tanks was the magic that worked for me. I wish I still had the photos. The main cola was 25" and every lateral branch had solid buds from the tip to the main trunk. People say today that the weed is better than then. It’s not, it’s only different. Our generation in those times popularized that movement and today they commercialized it.

You sound like you were the man to know back then :sunglasses:
What have they done indeed.
O well, It’s all good. At least we have good weed to smoke and a lot easier with the laws.
Peace out my friend. :love_you_gesture:
