Hello, I am a beginner and I am having the same issue. This is my second growth and I am using auto flower (white widow) My first batch ended with me being well past the recommended life cycle and never seeing Amber trichmoes. I finally gave in and harvested with week results.
This time around I am again past my 12-14 weeks and see no Amber Trichomes. Should I wait it out or am I doing something wrong?
You’re doing absolutely nothing wrong. Indeed you should continue to wait for Amber. I’ve been there trust me it’s well worth the wait and sometimes the waite can get ridiculously long. You’ve put all this time into that girl don’t rush the chopping block you’ll regret it.
I just chopped one down last week that took close to 17+ weeks until I saw my first Amber.
This is by far the time she is crying for your patience. Give her the time she’ll give you the reward. Good luck to you
There is some debate over ‘when’ there is a lot to read. I tend to get them ‘cloudy’ with a small percentage of ‘amber’. Have you made a firm decision on what you actually want? Or just using the ‘amber’ as a measure point sort of?
Taking them before ‘amber’ will not waste your effort, it will just produce a different result. Some studies from universities point towards decaying potency at the ‘amber’ stage. This makes sense to me. Although I am far from sure about the idea.
Depends on what defines “potency” I guess. It’s the breakdown of THC to CBN, the “couch lock” cannabinoid, although it’s believed to be a combination of THC and CBN that is most effective, from the latest I’ve read anyways.
Youd be suprised on how many plants ive grown waiting for amber but never came… keep checking her once ot twice a week. Amber comes on slowly so be prepared to play the waiting game…
Amber may never come…especially with some long flowering sativas. That said, white widow does not fall into that category in my experience.
If she’s well past her suggested flowering time I would wait till most trichomes are cloudy…then chop. BTW they will never all turn cloudy or amber…the plant is constantly throwing new trichomes and some will always be clear at harvest. I like mostly cloudy with a few amber. 10% ish.
I do like to see a few amber, i find it gives the herbs effect some legit staying power.
Sometimes they take a long time…my last two autos in the tent 100 days+ (~11+ weeks flowering), eating themselves pretty good, and not much amber yet on one, and none really on the other:
