All Leaves Fading Fast, About Mid-Flower, Day 60

  1. Indoor, Single Plant, 2x3 AC Infinity Tent
  2. ILGM Seeds
  3. Wedding Cake Autoflower
  4. Britta Filtered City Tap Water, Off Gassed 48 hrs in open topped pitcher
  5. PH’d down from 8.2 to 6.5 With a Few Drops of Lemon Juice checked W/Apera PH20
Meter. Weight/Feel Method, going between about 15% saturated and 50% saturated
    based on feel
  6. 2 Gallon A-Pot-For-Pot Kit W/super soil mix
  7. No additional fertilizers added thus far aside from a tsp of honey twice
  8. Light=HLG 135W QB® V2 Rspec® LED Kit. 18/6 light cycle, reduced power to about 60
percent when yellowing started getting worse, concerned it may be light bleaching or
    heat stress.
  9. Temps around 80-85 daytime, 75 nighttime
10 RH runs about 45-55% day and night?
  10. Central AC provides the temp and humidity, no other adjustments done
  11. 4" AC Infinity fan W/Charcoal filter & controller, set to run 24/7 at power level 2,
sometimes 3 if temp climbs above 85.

Plant is 60 days above ground now. Shortly after buds started fattening the leaves began fading. It started with the large fans at the bottom which I know is normal, no worries, then the top half started fading to a sort of light lime green while the middle of the plant remained fairly green. I thought this might be due to some light/heat stress so I reduced the power output of the HLG light controller to about 60%-70% to cool the tent a bit and see if it would slow the yellowing. It did not. Now all of the remaining leaves are basically banana yellow colored. They look yellower to the naked eye than they do in these pics.

I contacted @aPotforPot support a few times and they first suggest nothing more than a light defoliation of the yellowest leaves that might be shading bud sights. As the yellowing continued they suggested using something besides lemon juice to lower my tap water PH from 8.2 to 6.5 as I’d been doing. This only takes a few drops of lemon juice to adjust so I’m skeptical that this is the problem.

In spite of the severe yellowing of the leaves I think the buds look pretty healthy and seem to be fattening and getting more crystals each day. Is something wrong or is this normal for ILGM Wedding Cake Auto? At this point I’m unsure if I should go ahead and add some nutes or just ride it out and hope for the best. What I don’t want to do is to leave it be and end up with a dead plant.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated-

-Myco

She definitely looks hungry, I’d feed her some npk asap, assuming soil ph is all good

You see this fairly often. It’s too late to make any adjustments to your feeding schedule to prevent yellowing as none of those leaves will recover. That far along in flower the plant is not producing leaves. You will just have to ride it out.

Thanks for the feedback. Is there any benefit to added nutrition at this point? If so, what is recommended? If not Should I expect this die off to continue or should the buds continue to form as (relatively) normal? Here are a few more pics…

There is no feeding schedule to adjust as I’ve grown this plant in @aPotforPot super soil which is supposed to be good from seed to harvest.

What I’m trying to figure out now is, is this indicating a problem with the soil? Is it normal? Do I need to add some nutes at this point to help with budding or does the soil have everything the plant needs? Could it be locked out? I watered with distilled the first couple weeks until I received the Apera pen to check PH, then always filtered, rested and adjusted to 6.5.

I’ll be hesitant to use the aPotforPot soil again unless I can answer some of these questions.

I tried the Pot4pot on 1 grow and had to feed nutrients at week 6 :love_you_gesture:

I also used Apotforpot and had to use nutrients on my girl. @Graysin what are the nutrients you sent? They’ve completely turned my girls life around and I plan to use them for my next grow after seeing how well they worked.

Did you buy the grow kit? Which one if so? There are some things in the kitchen that shouldn’t be used is why I ask.

I got the medium kit. The only thing that I’ve ever added besides filtered, rested and PH adjusted water is one tsp of honey one time about 2 weeks ago.

After reading through a bunch of posts this seems to be common for autos in aPotforPot living soil for whatever reason. I saw a post from @aPotforPot from last year stating that they’re looking closely into the early yellowing of autos in their medium. Maybe they’ll chime in here with their findings. Something is definitely going on, I don’t think it’s just genetic.

I just gave the plant a pretty thorough pruning, removing all of the super yellow leaves that were shading bud sites or obviously totally spent. The buds look just fine so I suspect they’ll continue to grow without too much issue. (I hope) They seem to getting fatter and more fragrant by the hour now.

Looks like normal fall colors, but a few weeks too early.

I’m not familiar with a pot-for-a-pot. Is it soil? Coco? Are you maintaining a good runoff PPM? I’m not aware of any grow medium that does not require nutrients at some point during the grow.

It’s a living soil medium/mix they call “Superb Soil” that is supposed to be complete from seed to harvest, no added nutes. It is mixed with coco and layered with a topdressing.

60 days above ground seems really fast for the stage it’s at but I’m not complaining about that. It’s a nice sized plant with heavy, strong stems and, if it keeps moving at the same pace, may be ready for harvest in under 80 days.

I still have no idea why the leaves all went yellow so quick, hopefully that question will have some likely answers soon.

@Myfriendis410 you are the best grow medium guy I know. The poster is referring the Pot-for-a-Pot medium. Do you know how this is possible?

It’s probably because it’s only a 2 gallon pot, if it was a 5 gallon it might get you through with just water only. Not enough nutrients in that small pot to support her from start to finish

I sent you Jack’s 3-2-1 - Part A, Part B, and some Epsom salts. :v: They’re very affordable and you’ve seen how easy to use they are.

I believe that there is a genetic component to this problem. Runoff TDS would be good to get.

Problem is I think it’s a no-no to water that heavily with this type of soil…

Maybe a slurry test?

If the buds fully mature maybe it’s a blessing in disguise as there will be a lot less leaves to trim. A self trimming plant!

@aPotforPot , where are you?

It would be nice to know if this is a deficiency that needs to be addressed to get the most out of the last days/weeks of bud development or if the plant has what it needs and the leaf loss is normal.

Looking at the pictures of your plant, I’d say she still has weeks too go. I think it might be best to feed her some nutrients or your bud quality will suffer.

None of the leaves that have yellowed will recover. It’s really too late to add any N to the soil as the plant won’t really need it at this point nor will it use it. Like stated you have 3 to 4 weeks to go. Yield may or may not suffer. This is in fact pretty common. I had a GDP next to 3 other plants that was yellow from mid veg on through flower. Bud size was small in my opinion but did get a yield.
