Air Fryer for Decarboxylation

Hope this is helpful for everyone out there.

Have never been happy with the temp and time control of the standard kitchen oven for decarb’ing flower. Plus, decarb’ing in the house always produced unwanted and lingering odors. Really wanted to decarb outside. An air fryer seemed a possible perfect solution (?)

Received a Cosori air frier as a gift and while the description of the air fryer says its programable between 90F to 450 F, it really is not. The temp range between 200 to 260F for some reason is locked out by this particular manufacturer (??) Many other manufacturers may have air fryers without the temp range locked out (?) But anyways…

Using a “Govee” Bluetooth temperature monitor/ data logger typically used for grilling….

A one-hour test run was made with it programmed for 260F; the min temperature available for the “Bake” setting. As it turns out the temp measured with the temp prob at the bottom of the basket was 240F +/- and very stable. See photo.

The next plot is with 2 oz of bud wrapped in aluminum foil actual shows a very nice decarb profile, with the temperature topping out at 250F +/-. Again, the temp probe located internal to the aluminum foil, in the bud, AND mid-level in the basket. See photo.

Given the great control of time and temp of at least this air fryer, and everyone tends to have air fryer and probably has a remote grilling meat thermometer(?) It may be worth investigation seeing you can use your air fryer to decarb your bud. (Really like the ability of decarb outside. Keeping the odors dissipating outside.)

With the heating profile of the aluminum wrapped bud understood with this air fryer, The confidence is very high that have locked down consistent decarb of all future bud with this air fryer.

Engineering Notes: The internal temp of this air fryer was a consistent 250F with temp probe located mid-level in the basket, prior test with temp probe at bottom of basket was 240F, so location of probe matters, when programmed for 260F regardless of if the unit was inside at 70F or outside at 30F… (Yes, its winter around here right now.) What really matters is the temperature measured inside the aluminum foil. The temp seen by the bud!!

Hints. If you are purchasing an air fryer in the future, make sure the unit has a circulating fan and is programable for the temp and time range you decide is best for your flower decarb’ing. You can generate your own temp profile with the air fryer you have.

Wishing everyone the best…
