Advice needed for a guy that likes to smoke and grow with a bad heart

Hello all.

Ok so I figured this is a trouble shooting topic(for myself anyway) as it is about marijuana, if not in the correct space I truly apologize. So Let’s get into it.

So…. I have had 2 heart attacks and have aggressive coronary heart disease 4 stents blah blah blah it is what it is and I feel great by the way ! 49 yrs old.

Does anyone have any positive knowledge they could share about smoking for someone in my situation? All I find on the internet is all the negitive stuff lol, but in all seriousness I know that smoking anything isn’t healthy. With all the hype on the benefits of weed in the last couple of years I just kind of assumed it’s not that bad for me especially if you only smoke on weekends, And my dr(not heart dr) gave me my medical card for legal use when it first came out.

Would appreciate any info, especially thoughts from people in my similar condition, any feedback is great

I love growing for sure! Weed made me anxious since my late 20’s so I only smoke after I’ve had a few beers which is honestly once every weekend, but wish it was more :grinning:

Thank you all for your help along my way with my first and current indoor grow.

If this offends anyone in anyway feel free to pull it down. Thank you again

I have COPD and now hit vape carts instead of smoking flower to minimize the damage of smoke to my cardiovascular system.

So far as specific recommendations, no one here is a doctor that I am aware of. You should consult your personal physician.

Lol thank you. I’m not looking for a medical dr man, just a person to person opinions,

There are a few around who might be able to share their personal experiences.

Alot of people do edibles, there’s many threads on extracting and mixing/baking tasty. You also adsorb/metabolize more through your stomach vs your lungs. If that isn’t good enough find the RSO extraction threads where you use it as a suppository, supposed to not get you high but even better adsorption.

An even better idea!

I would also say edibles. You should ask your doctor. He will be mad at you and advise against it, but he will tell you the truth. Just be honest. They appreciate it and they won’t rat you out for asking.

It sounds like you are reading my history. I grow but don’t partake but edibles are a better option than inhaling.

Last week was my 2 year anniversary of quitting cigarettes. Started when I was 18 and quit at 68. Do you think that has anything to do with cardiac and respiratory ailments?
Do you use an inhaler? I’m prescribed Combivent Respimat inhaler.

I quit cigarettes about 10 years ago, give or take, but continued to nicotine vape until about 2 years ago.

I use an Anoro inhaler and it seems to work great. If it gets too out of control, which happens maybe twice a year, I’ll get a Medrol Dose Pak (methyl-prednisolone.) The Medrol pak knocks down problems really quickly, but it’s not something that you can take all the time as it messes with bone density and has other significant side effects.

I’m 61 now and started smoking around age 13 or 14. I came out of the womb addicted to nicotine and still chew nicotine gum.

:point_up_2: I’ve converted several folks that had smoked a few times and experienced the anxious feeling. My personal experience is this is related to harvesting too early or they just couldn’t smoke a 80%-100% Sativa. I converted them with a good Indica strain or Indica dominant hybrid. I’m currently making oil infused capsules for a few that prefer not to smoke at all :love_you_gesture:

Thank god for Costco. I’m still chewing its Quit brand 4 mg mint & orig gum. I suck on a lozenge when my jaw gets tired.
Quitting was tough. I can’t begin to count the classes, hypnosis, and hospitalizations that couldn’t get me to quit.
Be well…

Same to you, brother.

When you first ingest cannabis through the lungs you will see a large jump in blood pressure. Cannabis (ironically) is a central nervous system stimulant. Using Indica strains harvested late may mitigate that effect (which is temporary) or eliminate it entirely. Just be aware of it.

The ‘jittery’ feeling or ‘paranoia’ that smokers feel is simply that jump in heart rate/pressure. Once most are aware of the reason for the effect it makes it easier to consume it. Just FYI.

I’m onboard the Indica fully ripened train here for you. Avoid sativa dominant and immature bud. I don’t have any heart issues that I’m aware of and even I dislike how racey some highs can be. Edibles that are indica dominant would seem your best choice. Take care and good luck!!

I had 13 strokes in 9 hours Dec 9, 2019. Died twice. They put me on opioids, never took them. My son found the Indica strain to help my symptoms. Thats what I grow. Stay away from Sativa strains. They will hype you up.

Wow thanks for all the great feedback so far, this is what I was looking for. Well I suppose I’m doing something right as I’m currently growing Banana, mango and blackberry kush, I believe they are mostly indica?(fruity mix from here) And I will definitely let them go further before harvest. :grinning:
