Adding perlite to FF soils

Just curious what you guy think,is there really any need to add perlite to FF soils or is the product good to go ,out of the bag ??

I have grown both ways with no real difference…

That being said, I try to add extra perlite just as a cost measure, I can get by with one less bag of FF per grow by adding extra perlite (the perlite cost about $11 dollars less a bag)…

I add about 10-20% to ocean forest. I ran into soil compaction issues without it.

Same here I go 25% by volume. It drains very well.

You really don’t need to, but I think most do. I add 25-30%. I prefer a more airy soil.

Ocean forest can get compacted after a few months, a little perlite wont hurt. Happy Frog will def compact, and If using it straight, I add about a quart to a bag.

I agree with the others on compaction, that’s why you would add perlite.
