A new 2x2 enthusiast

I was searching about 2x2’s and came upon @topdog’s posts. I was instantly motivated to not give up and try again better than ever. little background: I have a hand me down growkit from a friend, it came with tripart nutes and basic amazon cheapo 300w marshydro and a tent.

I did few casual grows but then all of the equipment started gathering dust, I realized that if I did not try to get better at the hobby it was not inspiring to continue. last week I pulled all the equipment from the storage and ordered a new lamp, new pots, new seeds, more nutrients etc.

With the help of chatgpt I went and created a grow plan, and now its time to share it to all of you hence previously just being a unregistered spectator, I now want to share with you my new chapter of growing, and it’s because of this forum, I want to try again.

  • :zap: What did I change
    • :bulb: Lighting
      • :purple_square: Ditching the old lamp - I got rid of the old ultraviolet MZ-300-60.
      • :white_large_square: New Technology - Replaced with TS1000, the sanlight evo4 was out of my budget.
  • :seedling: Plant Nutrition
    • :four_leaf_clover: Essential Nutrients - Rapid start, Flushing solution, Hyperbloom on top of tripart.
    • :mushroom: Mycorrhizae - I added myco powder to the rootit cubes hole before placing seed.
    • :volcano: Fulvic - I plan to try Fulvic to supplement the substrate mix of 70/30 coco/pebble.
  • :droplet: Environment
    • :ocean: Air Moisturizer - I got a air moisturizer to try managing the environment.
  • :hammer_and_wrench: Techniques
    • :knot: Quadline - I am going to attempt quadline with two toppings for 8 colas. scrog, lst.
    • :potted_plant: Plant Potting - 2x 5 gallon pots placed diagonally.
    • :seedling: New Seeds - I bought new autoflowering F4 X Photodependent seeds.

here is the new setup up and running, already germinated two seeds and put them in to cubes

Good luck and this is a pretty awesome place. If you don’t already have a hydro guy in your corner, there are lots of folks here that use coco and perlite.

The TS1000 is only 150 watts. FYI…I have 2 of them and use them in my smaller tent when germing or for early veg. That single light will not bring 2 plants to flower at their full potential.

2 plants in a 2x2 in coco. Gonna get real crowded.

Thank you! I am actually using coco/clay pebble, not perlite.

I thought about the TS2000 but after some research some were even questioning the choice of TS2000 in a 2x2 so I went the safe, cheap route. I still have my old marshydro 300 (actually 125w) which I could use…

If you think the light wont be sufficient by itself I could still supplement it with the old one, just wondering about placement and the stage when it would be needed…

I thought first about 4x 5 gallons… but realized its going to get waay too crowded in the small tent, then I thought about 3x 2,5gallons but ended up doing the 2x5gal since I had those already laying around.

PS. love your ducati

Thx on the Duke. Yes, I also have a 2x2 and I could never fit 2 plants in it.

1 plant maxed out with that light is doable. More plants equal more light/space. Head space will also be an issue. I would if possible relocate everything outside at the top of the tent so you can raise the light to the top.

I had to buy a new tent and light as I was not getting the yield I wanted out of the small tent.

Here is where I am now with the upgrades

38x38x72" tent and an HLG350 Evo

Gonna tag in a few peeps I think may grow using the coco/pebbles.

If any of you guys grow using coco, the OP could use some assistance in general.

Would the headspace really be a issue with scrog and good lst though? I could switch to a top opening chimney style, where the air would exhaust air through the filter vs air getting pulled through the filter.

I think Ill have to bear with the 2,3x2,3 for now… until me and my SO move to some place bigger. I envy your buds. and I’d like to think I’m heading to the right direction.

I would say yes, but based on the height. How tall is it? Mine was only 48". So with enough space from canopy to light, you want that at a minimum of 12" If you are at 48" minus the foot for the space between your light and canopy and the 10-18" if you were able to move the light up by moving the exhaust outside, that would leave you with 24" of actual growing space vertically. This is my opinion from exp. but we all have to do what we have to do when growing.

its 2,3x2,3x63" so in metrics 70x70x160cm, I’ll wont stress it for now, I have already tried the top chimney style configuration and I could easily change to it, if I can’t get the desired distance from light to canopy, which would be about 10 inches in flower.

Sounds like a plan. I know my grow evolved until I got it where I wanted/needed it to be. Prolly not the last word for you either. Even though I grow in soil, I have marked this as watching so will see new info as it pops up. If I can ever add anything that might help, I will.

I grew in my 3x3 with 2 ts1000 just fine , two plants at a time averaging 5 1/2 ounces dry and cured per plant.

If youre wanting to mainline and train, i would suggest doing photos instead of autos. Autos flip on their time not yours, and if youre in the middle of training, or just starting training, and she flips, youre not going to get the desired end result youre looking for. As far as the TS1000 goes. Youd be good to flower 1 plant. I can see what youre trying to do amd it can be done, but 1 plant is all youll be able fit after she flowers. Each of my girls when spread out take up at least 3x3…

they are starting to pop out, its really funny to see the myco growing where I accidentally spilled the powder.
after taking the photos, I made the other cubes hole bit smaller, thought maybe the roots would appreciate not as much light spilling.

they have gained some height, I’m administering the baby’s a small dose of 1,5ml/day of water mixed with rootit first feed.

the tap water ph is higher than my last place, instead of 2 drops of ph down per 0.2gal, it now took around 3 drops. ps. I know not a very scientific method to measure ph… Bear with me here

whilst we are waiting I buffered 7 gallon of coco with calmag with ph corrected water. without a ec meter I had to just estimate the calmag amounts. not ideal

I also put the hydro pebble to soak 24 hours in my flushing solution, no idea how much is actually there… I emptied the rest I had, hoping it would cover the 30% of the pot mix.

whats wrong in this image?

5.28 gal pot, 3.70 gal coco coir, and 1.32 gal clay pebble.
Now if I were an optimist I would say its a pot half full type of situation. but in reality as a pessimist I would say its half empty, I like to leave my pots some headroom but I guess I’ll need some more stuffing.

now with this said, keep in mind I compressed the coco a lil bit and that square pots have a tendency of expanding. should I go to the store and get some more or what do you guys think?

cubes are already pushing roots, so they are ready for transplanting…

This is one Blue Dream auto in a 2x2 and it got a little crowded.

week 2 has officially kicked off, and I have transplanted them, I will wait for bigger vegetation before giving them nutrients.

60cm to plants and adjusted the dimmer to 50%

Looks great! I grow in straight coco coir. I feed from seedlings till 2 weeks before harvest. I know those colyodion leaves are supposed to feed for about 2 weeks so just keep and eye on them.

I’m not sure how they will react with the pebbles in there.

Well I am back after a little bit of time away from my setup. And its actually week 4+ already phew! looks like its time to start giving them more nutes. two healthy plants, certainly more healthy than what I could achieve with my previous iteration of the tent setup.

Here is how they are looking right now! now as a newb I guess I should already start the LST. the bigger one is almost ready to be topped for the first topping.

I counted 4 nodes with serrated leaves, so I’ll let it get atleast two more before topping.

second gal is a tad smaller but slowly getting towards 3 nodes!

start the LST already right? starting by gently applying downward pressure on the stronger node stems and spreading them out?
