Starting my 3rd year of growing legal weed. Located in Piedmont region of Central Virginia.
Used the wet paper towel method to start my seeds on 4/16. Sprouted 5 (4 white widow autos, 1 gold leaf feminized photo). Transplanted ww into 5 gallon grow bags on 4/21. Grow medium is ocean forest/castings mix.
Waiting for my 20 gallon grow bags to deliver tomorrow before transplanting the gold leaf. Currently residing in a red solo cup.
I’ll pull up a comfy chair and tag along. Love watching other Va. Growers!
I’m in my chair tagging along!
Another VA grower here. I’m in NOVA. Will keep an eye on your progress.
Welp…imagine the drinks are watery and the popcorn stale by now. Rough start. Lost all 3 autos. Still don’t understand why. they all just withered and died. The Gold Leaf photo didn’t have the same issue. Restarted my autos and they struggled again but I have them heading in the right direction now. They just are going to smallish. will try to update more often now that things are looking up.
I find that plants grown next to outside walls don’t grow normally. I have tried tomatoes for instance and they don’t do well at all. Maybe try either a different location or at least pull them further away from the building. Just a guess about why they are failing.
I’ve grown in the same spot for the past few years with no issues and great success. I do move them out further once it gets hotter but its mid june and we haven’t had a 90 degree day yet.
This is my Gold Leaf from last year. 10 gallon pot. This year’s gold leaf is “Goldie” and is planted in a 20 gallon pot. Interested to see how she grows compared to last year’s plant.
Weekly update. 2 of 3 autos are budding. Goldie keeps getting bigger. Rain in the forecast for the next few days. Needed badly here in Central Virginia.
Beautiful! Those autos really rebounded in the past week.
They did rebound nicely. A bit surprised based on how stubborn they’ve been. All 3 autos now getting the FF trio every other watering
Welp. Didn’t beat the storms home yesterday. Got nailed by a wicked thunderstorm. Hailed harder than I’ve seen in my 60 years. For at least 10 minutes according to the neighbors. Quarter sized hail. Plants got pounded. Not sure if they will come back from this kind of damage or not. Any input is greatly appreciated.
They look pretty good IMHO for the wx you had. I’m in southside and had a terrible storm with dime-size hail and bursts of 60 mph gusts. But my lone Bubba Kush only lost a big ol’ leaf.
Your’s should spring back.
Man thats not good. They are tough. I would just give em some love and they will come back strong. Theres lots of time left for them to grow. On a different note, howd you like your goldleaf smoke from last year? I grew one as well. My buds got a bit soft at the end, but the smoke was stony.
She was 7ftx7ft got 4lb dry and trimmed.
Smokes pretty good. The buds ended up being really compact.
Ill give it another run next year. Gotta get a good pheno i guess. I got ilgm durban poison this time around. She is gonna be pretty and huge.
You get the best smoke from plants that have to overcome harsh stress. They may not be the biggest but it will be something special. Keep em going. Give them some jacks with a shot of cal-mag and watch em go. Or some good fish emulsion.
We get some wicked t-storms here in az, lucky ive never been in a hailstorm like you got though. Im spoiled, im in a 12x20x10’ greenhouse
Two days later. Poured down rain 4 different times yesterday. Sunny day today. Three have perked up. The runt looks beaten imo. We shall see
.
Oh ya, there gonna be a ok. Cant wait to see those in a couple months youll never know what happened.
I like to give a nice top dress of compost and worm castings in pre flower. Right when they start shooting hairs i put down some build a soil nutrient pack. Stuff is full of goodies your plants love. Kinda like the recharge product but not as expensive. I use it again week 4 after a nice pruning.
10 days since the Hail storm. Plants bounced back nicely considering the damage they sustained and the 90 degree weather we are experiencing. Having to water daily at this point. Interesting that the three autos are budding at different intervals despite being started at the same time. The runt (now bigger than one of her sisters) just started showing buds a couple of days ago. The other two are way ahead of her but are also about a week apart time wise.
