First off, I’m new to growing cannabis but I’ve been a gardner for 40 yrs. This is stumping me however. Out of 6 plants, these 2 are drooping and have some leaf discoloration, brown tips and some yellowing. I thought it was underwatering because it’s been dry and these 2 get a touch more sun than then others but they don’t perk up after watering, if anything they look worse. Not doing anything w the water, straight from the hose. I had been using rainwater but ran out. They are planted in plain old good dirt w sheep manure compost mixed in (couple yrs old so well composted). Haven’t fertilized since planting about 3 weeks ago. I did apply neem oil about a week ago. The other plants look great but I worry they’ll start doing this too.
I’d check the pH on that hose water first.
Check ph thats 90% of most problems growing cannabis
What have your temps been like and very likely ph being in more direct sunlight as you said they will feed and drink faster if ph is out or they get strong or weak nutrition they would be first to show signs as they transpire fastest. In hydro we manipulate nutrient solution to match both temps and light intensity a perfect mix in cooler temps is toxic in stronger light and or warmer temps this same thing can happen in soil
I’ll get a ph test. Temps have been average 65 at night 85 day.
Thanks!
they would be drinking lots so getting your ph right is definitely a important factor
Also has a good portion to do with evaporation pressure (eating and drinking does, this goes for both soil and hydro as mentioned above).
The hotter it is the higher the evaporation pressure meaning they will drink alot more and eat alot more if continuous could eventually lead to health problems for the plants.
The lower the evaporation pressure the slower they eat and drink due to cooler climates they cant evaporate as fast this could be a potential problem also.
This is one thing to always be on top of (basically maintaning environment) otherwise there will be some sort of problem ahead to be more specific on how that works
I was trying to explain in a simple way but your explaination is pretty much what i was trying to express thanx for clarifying my gibberish
Not a problem buddy
Ph is 7.2, that’s not horrible right? I did buy some soil acidifier & de-acidifier because it was that or pool ph up/down. Figured I can just dissolve in water…problem is I don’t know how much to use. Also bought some osmocote+ and I have fish emulsion.
Ideal ph in soil is 6.5 at 7 many nutrients are locked out at those levels and I would never suggest pool additives to adjust pet stores have ph± for fish tanks and I would simply adjust a 5 gal bucket to water with to 6-6.3 to help lower soil ph
I just went out and mixed the osmocote into the surrounding soil. Also put 1/2 cup of the soil acidifier in a trash can w water. Going to give it the afternoon to dissolve then I’ll check the ph again.
Thanks for the help guys. I’ll update if/when I see improvement.
Well, they look better. When I tested the water that I disolved the acidifier in it was still close to 7 so I mixed some of it into the soil too. It’s been a really hot and very windy day so if they’re not drooping now, I’d say that’s a good sign.
Almost 2 days later with continued temps in the 90s and strong winds, still no drooping! They look fabulous and have new growth!
Thank you Donaldj, Majiktoker, Nug-bug and GetbackJojo. Sometimes we have to hear “monitor your ph” when we’re in a crisis for it to sink in. I never had a problem w my winter indoor grow but now realizing that they are using more water and nutrients outside in the heat and full sun…well, that made sense to me. I also always let my water sit so the chlorine evaporated w my winter grow, I could because they didn’t need much. I think that also hurt these because it was straight from the hose. Now I’m filling the trash can and letting it sit 24 hrs and testing ph. Certainly isn’t like growing tomatoes, they’re doing just fine with hose water :).
@Jen, the fact that you thanked me makes me chuckle a little. I have yet to even start my first grow (Still waiting on seeds.) I guess it just shows that reading the forums for the last month and a half, I’ve picked up a few things already. Kinda gives me hope for myself.
No like left but anytime!
@GetbackJoJo don’t worry when ya seed come in you’ll be ahead of the game!
