My first grow and I want a great bud, I’ve watch these girls grow for 5 months. Yes I damn near killer them twice and I shocked them countless times. Jack Herer Strain… Last watering was 10-1, no nutrient just water. Should I wait a bit longer to harvest or ya’ll think it’s ready?

I know you’re anxious but I would try to get a couple more weeks if possible. Your plant looks really nice.

I agree with @kellydans, there are a lot of white pistils indicating that it is still bulking up for you.
Patience is rewarded with really nice, dense buds.

Thank you, yes I’m ready so what exactly does one look for before harvest? I’ve read alot of articles on it but in my opinion the ones that do it know more in what to look for.

It is nice to have a Jeweler’s loupe so you can look at the buds. You like to see the crystals cloudy maybe 10% of them Amber depending on how potent you want the buds to be. Also I like to shoot for a good dense bud. Hope that helps.

I just got my jewelers loupe and the crystals look cool. Little mushrooms they kinda look more clear than cloudy but then again it’s my first. So I’ll say my best bet is wait till some turn amber. Then on my next grow look at the crystals in the early stages. I have white widow and amnesia haze in veg now. Going on 5 weeks on both.

I start looking at trichomes (that is what those crystals are called) starting several weeks after flip to flower. I only look at them at that point because they are nifty to look at.
I wait until the pistils start to turn red/brown (usually 6 or 7 weeks after flip) before I start evaluating the cloudiness of trichomes and determining harvest time.

You’ve got 2 to 3 more weeks of flower-building. This is the time when your plant will double it’s flower size. It makes it well worth waiting.

I can ride that out that will put my other jack herer, white widow at about 8-9 weeks in veg. Which will be a interesting flip. I added a co2 bag in my veg tent, man what a difference that made.

The grow time is just a reference number and actual times will vary. Also; flower is counted once pistils show and not when first flipped (usually 10 to 14 days) so if you calculated that in; that would account for the difference.
CO2 is helpful if all other parameters have been optimized and your flowering light intensity is extremely high. Likely it’s not doing any good for you and you are seeing the peak growth of the plant (which is phenomenal at that point).
Closed systems, high partial pressure of CO2 (from a pressure cylinder) and gnarly lights will allow you to push the PPM’s of your nutrient load and the plant take it. Otherwise it’s just not worth the effort. I think @TDubWilly is running CO2 so maybe he has insight?

That’s what I thought about the lights cause my light didn’t cover the whole tent. So I put 2 1200 watt LED in my 2 by 4 tent. My light is 24 inches off my plants and covers every inch of the tent. I dont see any light burns on the plants, should I lower it or just keep it at 24 inches while in flower?

24 inches sounds pretty good. Do you know how many watts they draw from the wall? That’s a more important datum than the “1,200 watt equivalent” that you see on the Amazon lights. You need 50 watts/square foot for good flower density in those older tech LED’s.

I’m not trying to run crazy ppm numbers with it. I push my room at 600-700ppm and that’s it. This allows me to refill my tank about every three weeks at $20 a pop. Running it at 1500pm makes me have to refill it every week at $20 a pop.
Without co2 my room is about 350ppm so all I’m really trying to do with it is keep my environment slightly better than optimal and this I can afford.
1500ppm is an investment that I cannot seem to get the same value in return with harvest size

I put a co2 bag in my tent I’m pretty sure it said it raises the tent 500ppm for 6 months $35 a bag I figured it couldn’t hurt. I really see a difference in my veg tent or my seeds are just a better quality.

what is a co2 bag and what does it do? still learning
CO2 is used when light intensity exceeds that which the plant can handle normally. It increases the metabolism of the plant and you can get some massive growth.
That said; all other parameters need to be maxed before you will really see a benefit and the ones that do a good job are closed systems with pressurized gas introduced in a controlled manner. Using these aftermarket CO2 bags is a waste of money IMO. Especially if maintaining a particular environment with outside air.
