Helo all, I’m getting ready to start off my first grow and i think ive got my setup complete but i cant help but question this light. Dont get me wrong its a good size and is very bright, but is 1000w LED really 1000w? Is that enough per plant ive read as litlle as 600 for 2 just feel lile its low. Im also a little worried about my soil but we will tackle that after light.
@TokersHaven, the light should tell you actual wattage. My 900 watt led draws 418 watts… This is what I use… The light or manufacturer should tell you actual wattage… Hope that helps you out
Oh wow i will go look now i apologize
@TokersHaven… I looked up the model and it came up with a Bestva led light? Not sure if this is your light but this model shows it only has 185 watts… Which is low wattage… Your only growing 2 plants so you can supplement with cfl lights for veg which you would need 5000 kelvin or higher, they are pretty cheap… As an example, my Viparspectra 900 watt led uses 418 watts… This is the number you new to look at… If you could Styron that light and buy a Viparspectra, mars hydro or year Meizhi lights, you will be better off… Costs are around 300- 350… My 900 watt led was 299.99 …
If that is only putting out 185 watts for a 1000 watt led, not so good… For double that cost you could have more than double watts if cost isn’t an issue
I’m looking at a Meizhi led 1200 watt which I think uses 565 actual watts and this light is $325 US on Amazon… Just some more info for you
Eh yea cost is an issue ive already got a little over 7 in the the rig have any cheap suggestions? Gove me a minute ill post my setup so far
The cheap suggestion would be cfl bulbs… The higher the wattage the better but you can use just sockets and bulbs and hang by the plants… Cfl’s can be placed very close to plants maybe 2 to 3 inches away…, I’m new to this growing but have been through the research on lighting, it’s why I answered you… There are a lot of very experienced people here and listen to what they have to say as well… Good luck
Yea ive been reading on your first grow actually just didnt realized the light output was so low kinda sucks ive got WW AF otw and some seed that just started breaking surface after a soil only germ.
Hey, no worries… That light can be good for seedlings and sprouts… Make sure you keep light at proper manufacturer recommended distance… Add some cfl’s when u can… Should be fine… May look into more watts as you approach flowering stage… You should be cool to start… See what the more experienced folks have to say
@Zombo and @TokersHaven If you want more bang for the buck why not go HID? There’s definitely heat issues but you can pick up a magnetic ballast for really cheap… so rather than pay $300 for 500 true watts You could pay $150-170 for 1000 true watts. Just putting it out there… maybe you didn’t think of it I’ll shut up now. lol.
You can get started using the one you have and the plants will tell you if you have enough light. If they are stretching, you need more output. If they are little shrubs you are good. I think you are probably fine with what you have.
There was an interesting article on the subject of led’s and why they are rated one and actually draw a different wattage. Led’s are far more efficient than any other light source but may require more initial outlay to achieve the same results as older technologies.
With the 1000w bat wing reflector it will generate emence heat, would be way better to go ahead and go with a air-cooled hood, savery ya self some headache
Maybe I missed it but I’d suggest you calculate light needs based on space you expect to fill vs. the number of plants. You’ll get a more definitive answer to what you need. Just my opinion. Aim for 50 true watts per square foot of grow space.
@TokersHaven that air cooled hood will work for sure. Although, you may want to run the lamp at 50% at first. Check your temps etc. I’d also suggest when you hang the hood, maybe get the exhaust fan closer to the light. Try hanging it beside the hood inside the tent. The closer it is, the more efficient the fan will be… am I being captain obvious? -
Lol!
Rock on!
Also you want to pull air from the top of the tent and bring in freash air from the bottom…
Heat rises…
