retired controls eng here, mostly auto ind but worked at lots of different applications, started with PLC’s back when they were new, we grew up together (PLC’s and my career)
I was starting to look into plcs and a Family member suggested i look into arduinos.
I got about that far before my wallet smacked me back to reality…Next run

i hate writing code, nit picky little biotches. mostly i’m field service, troubleshooting systems
I plan to fully automate everything but trimming (UUGH the trimming) so i can control everything from RES flush and refill to dosing, fans, AC all Remotly from anywhere in the world…so i can do it from my couch 0_o
Troubleshooting in the field made me look feel a rock star back in my day, i was “the guy” that “the guys” called
that is real neat stuff! i will read back thru my grows, early ones especially to see if i can find the one who has his stuff all auto’d
Im itching to start pulling my final hairs out writing code. (learning to)
yea, it sure does that to you, makes you feel all warm inside! i solved lots of problems that others had looked at and couldn’t figure out… it was almost never the PLC’s, mostly stuff connecting to them. i went to Control Data Institute to be a computer repair systems guy but ended up in auto ind because that is mainly what we have in Mich. but the programming part of class really frustrated me. spent 40 hours troubleshooting the program i wrote and it had nothing to do with the logic, it was all framing mistakes, parenthesis, colons, commas in wrong places
That is Exactly what i think will be the steering wheel on my belt buckle…“Its driving me nutts”
You are cracking me up you need to be an entertaining comedian, love it you don’t just get mad and start throwing things. Me I’d probably have a little sit down cry then fix things.
I have actually thought about this…but im more funny on the spot…and i forget everything i say and refuse to smoke little enough to remember when i could be smoking more.

Hey Monk ! Morning brotha. I’d be interested in the fully auto system also.
I enjoy reading your ramblings and get a lot of chuckles at your humor. Thanks for the tag. You’ve some talent behind those unique ideas. We’ll have some fun up in nerdland!
great music, a take off on old thirties/ fourties country music done later by commander cody. tex williams has one from 47
but great music none the less!
one of the guys was @Skydiver , but haven’t seen him around lately. and his wasn’t fully auto.
SkydiverBergman’s Lab
I hear ya. I also like to check on them in person too.
But as you and I both know at some point down the road the new car smell wears off and I won’t lose interest per se but will be less frequent opening the tent etc.
Here are a couple items to consider for controlling your air conditioner and in winter heater. Also for humidity and dehumidifier etc.
I have the bayite and have used it for heating this winter and now it’s hooked to my 4” intake fan and is set to only run when temps exceed 78.5 and shuts off at 77f. The main 8” fan runs all the time and is set on REO speedwagon at about 50% and if temps go above the 78.5 the 4” kicks on.
Anyway some ideas / costs to reference for future. Just remember it’s all about the amps. As some of these controllers are max 10amp and some are 15amp so depends on draw of air/heat etc realizing both won’t necessarily be on at the same time.
@anon49170411 , @TDubWilly , @Jbum are folks that had some input on my second grow, but they were all monitoring from remote location, not control. i went thru the first 2 grows, about 4k lines and didn’t see the guy who was doing control, or talking about it. i said then that i could program a PLC to control those kind of inputs and outputs, but it would be cost prohibitive and a waste of time. if you are doing this in quantity as a money making business then using remote controls for all your stuff might be worth it as you can make up the outflow of money with what you will be taking in. but from what i’ve seen about the commercial growers around here, they use folks to keep track of stuff and control stuff. hard to beat humans for making decisions on what is what if they know what they are doing. not sure, but i think tdub is gone now so he won’t be responding. the others might be around yet but don’t know for sure. i will look thru my third grow at a later date to see if the auto guy is on there, but i could just be remembering from the first two grows for remote monitoring, not control.
Ah heck yeah, I play this on the fiddle since I was a whipper snapper. My dad would play this on his guitar at half tempo and we’d all just croon! Good memories. Those were some different days for sure! My dad would do his Tex Williams impersonations and make my mom blush! Hee hee. Good stuff there. I like this version too
Noice Monk! Thanks for digging this up. I had to grab a guitar and play… for a couple min is all. now my fingers are sore. Good thing I use thumbs to type on my phone or I’d have to get back to this in a day or two, haha. Talkin Candy Bar Blues on my dad’s old 12string. I tried to put the video up of me playing & croakin it out, but I can’t upload videos. Probably better for everyone
You play too if I remember right.
I’d like to automate my grows as much as is affordable so I can leave them without a sitter. Got the video cams rolling on them already. I only grow for myself so it’s purely to fit my lifestyle.
Ok i need someone to talk me down.
I just trimmed AGAIN…I look like i just went for a jog. 0_o
I have about a week or so of veg left…
Im ready to just switch to flower with like 20% space unfilled at the moment (Prime space right in the center) JUST so i can console myself with the idea that my trimming days are numbered.
OK… I feel better
No freakin way im wasting that space… (Just keep saying it)
