Actually a shorter flowering period, yes. But Shorter flowering time, and absolutely less light, will mean a lower overall yield.
The gradual lowering of the light period does mimic what happens in nature, and as long as most of the light does not get below 11 hours per 24 hour cycle, then the yield should not be reduced by much, but even in nature outdoors, when the light is reduced to 9 or less hours per day, the yield and the THC levels drop significantly.
Bigger more resinous swollen buds might be the result of an extended dark period the very last day of flower, right before cutting down the pant, but not a long term super short light period for most of the flowering grow.
It is simple science and physics, shorter growing period means less time to put on weight, and less light means the plant has less energy to make THC or swell those buds.
