Goal for the Grow:

I learned a lot from my last two autos. They were the first two where I exclusively used distilled water for my main water source, and I ran into HUGE CalMag problems. I should have reasoned that I would need to replace a base of CalMag in each water regardless of adding actual nutrients as a part of my feeding schedule, but lesson learned!

For this grow, I will be adding a base of Ventana Plant Science Support (4 - 0 - 0 CalMag) to each of my waters. I will be adjusting that base throughout the grow, as well as adding other nutrients based on plant cycle.

Another goal for this Z-Up Auto is to severely limit any stress during the first 21 to 28 days of the growing cycle. During my last 5 autos, I have heavily LST’d starting around day 20, thinking that high plant manipulation would lead to better light exposure and better yields, but for this one, I want to try the opposite. I am going to do no training until flower, and even then, training will consist of some stake and tying, subtle manipulation.

In terms of lighting, I am going to rock a 24-hour light cycle for the first time, at least through vegetation and pre-flower. I may cut back to 22/2 once flowering starts, but I wanted to do a plant at 24 hour just to see the results. I think Z-Up is a great candidate for this, and let’s see what happens!

Germination: OrganiPlugs

Z-Up Auto will be grown in a mixture of 1.5 Gallons loosely packed Happy Frog and around a quart of perlite with 2 tablespoons of Xtreme Mykos added to the substrate.

I germinated her in a bit newer method for me, using OrganiPlugs. Thus far, I have been able to germinate and successfully grow about 10 plants using this method, and it is super easy!

All I do is add the seed to the plug, place it into the tray (I cut a 6 x 2 piece from the 50 piece propagation tray they sell), placed the tray into a ziplock bag with a bit of air, and wrapped the bag in a few towel rags to prevent light penetration. I added a squirt of distilled water (about 5 - 10 ml) into the bad Once wrapped, I placed in a saucer and put it into my 2 x 4 tent (which is running 20/4 for my other autos).

In about 3 days, the seedling emerged and a nice taproot sprung from the bottom of the cube, easy peasy! The OrganiPlugs really help me feel confident in the process and I must say, they are nice to use! Plus, I get to add some Mykos when I add the plug into the soil, which is a huge benefit in the process.

I did just that! I added around a tablespoon in and around the planting site into my 2-gallon pot and planted her gently.

Through week one, things are looking good!

Watering is super simple. On day 3, I gave 50 ml around the OrganiPlug and 200 ml in a circle around 2 inches from the seedling site.

Day 3:

On day 7, I gave another 50 ml on/around the OrganiPlug and upped the water to 300 ml in the same circle.

Day 7:

I expect to see some great growth throughout the next week, and I will likely introduce some vegetative nutrients at 1/4 strength for one water.

Day 8:

Good vibes heading into week 2!

Looking great thus far heading into day 12!

I’ve been keeping it simple with just distilled water + Ventana Plant Science Support + Tribus at the same established levels (around .3 EC).

On day 10, I gave her 50 ml around the OrganiPlug and 300 ml the established watering circle.

Day 10:

Day 11:

Day 12:

She is in my 2 x 4 with 6 CBD Autos that are looking great too, a little subconscious showoff! haha

All in all, super healthy right now. A nice green and I’ll think about possibly adding a smaller dose of nutrients this week just to try and bolster Veg. I may keep it simple, let’s see how she does!

Super happy heading into the end of week two!

First three weeks have gone great! I have really resisted the urge to do any early stage defoliation as I am trying to REDUCE ALL STRESS to this girl before she starts to flower. I have tried to tuck and tie down all larger fan leaves that would normally block nodes, and I think that has been going well. It’s been tough to resist, but I’d say the method is resulting in better growth overall.

3 waters this week: 8.19 (Day 16) - 1.5 liters of .39 ec ph 6.49 distilled water with Ventana Plant Science Support and Tribus

8.22 (Day 19) - Started Veg Nutes! 2 liters distilled water with Ventana Plant Science: 1 ml/g Grow 2 ml/g Support (need to start full strength 5 ml/g for future waters) 2 ml/g Tribus

8.24 (Day 21) - She was light and thirst, so another 2 liters of the same mixture.

However, on day 21, I started to notice the same signs of early CalMag deficiency as I had with my previous Banana Purple Punch, even though I’ve been working to try and avoid it. Darn! Good news is, I have experience with it now! So to address this issue as quickly as possible, I went in on day 22 and gave her a booster shot of .6 ml VPS Support in 500 ml of water slowly poured into the soil. I am not worried about overwatering at this point, as she has been drying out decently in between each water, and I’ll be sure to let her dry out before the next water. I’ll also bump up my base Support addition to full levels of 5 ml/gallon moving forward in each water.
My hope is to avoid any significant damage like Banana Purple Punch went through!

Fastbuds says Z-Up Auto is a light eater, so I was to stay cautious but vigilant with CalMag.

I did stake down the main stem today, it was too hard to resist working towards that even canopy! No leaf removal though haha!

I am feeling good so far and I’ll be sure to bump up the CalMag and nutes during pre-flower! @Mmanson1981 How are we looking?

Week 4 went well - she is looking healthy and is definitely transitioning into pre-flower. This next week will bring the finishing of my vegetation cycle of nutrients and I will start transitioning into some PK and flower nutrients!

Here is how the week went!

My late vegetation nutrient water solution recipe was as follows:

5 ml/g Support
2 ml/g Grow
1 ml/g Structure
1 ml/g Expand
.6 ml/g FlaVUH
.25 tsp Stash Blend

PH = 6.10
EC - .83

On 8.28 (Day 25), I gave her 1.5 liters. There was just a touch of runoff, and I am trying to keep runoff fairly minimal for this run. 1.5 to 2 liters is max watering I found for 2 gallon pots with Happy Frog for me.

On 8.30 (Day 27), I gave her 2 liters. She looked really thirsty and had a nice droop to her, I was happy to give some solid water!

On 9.1 (Day 29), I gave her another 2 liters. Again, she drank it up and it looking happy!

I noticed a few brown spots developing here and there on some various leaves. Again, I want to avoid CalMag issues at all costs, so I am going to likely give either another CalMag booster today or tomorrow, or up my next feeds by one or two ml/gallon.

Outside of that, no issues to report! I am keeping VPD at 1.2 and the tent is holding nice! I started some autopot geopots in the same tent to I’ll have to monitor humidity accordingly, but it’s been a good week!

Let’s hope that deficiency doesn’t creep up on me haha!

Heading into day 30, I noticed some more possible signs of early CalMag deficiency, so I watered as normal with 2 liters of the pre-flower watering mix I had remaining from my previous grow recipe (see previous week). After I noticed that some of those brown spots were still popping out, I went with ANOTHER CalMag “Booster Shot”. I also did some final training bending the main stem for max light exposure for the canopy.

On day 31, The booster shot was 1 ml of VPS Support in 500 ml/water. I poured it very slowly at the base of the organiplug and 2 inches out. She responded great to that and I saw 0 progression of any CalMag issues. I am happy to say that these two “booster shots” have worked very well for this grow, and I’ll be adding that technique to my list for future CalMag issue avoidance while using distilled water!

Heading into 9/6 (Day 33), I made the decision… well she showed me it was time… it move to early flower transition nutrients! Her buds are starting to develop and stack up, so it’s time to phase into flower!

For this transitional water, I went with:

8 ml Ventana Plant Science Support
4 ml Ventana Plant Science Grow
4 ml Ventana Plant Science Flower
2 ml Ventana Plant Science Expand
2 ml Ventana Plant Science Structure
1 ml Ventana Plant Science FlaVUH
1/2 tsp Stash Blend

PH was 6.4 and EC going in was 1.0

This is actually the first grow where I am tapering down Ventana Plant Science Grow while increasing Flower in a “Transition” week, instead of immediately dropping grow all together at transition.

Honestly, she has responded great!! It is another note to make for using Ventana Plant Science and Autoflowers, and I will be sure to try this in my autopots.

She is thirsty! 2 liters is max watering right now with a touch of runoff, and she needs it every two days.

I watered:

Day 31 (9/4) - Two Liters Vegetation Mix (See Previous Week)
Day 32 (9/5) - 500 ml Booster (1 ml VPS Support)
Day 33 (9/6) - Two Liters Transition Mix
Day 35 (9/8) Two Liters Transition Mix

Based on today’s pictures, she is happy and healthy and we are in flowering!

Day 36, heading into week 6! VPD is holding strong at 1.3, I might bump it up but I am also running two autopots that are in week 1 in the same tent, so I have some “perpetual grow” thinking to do haha. Z-Up Auto is looking happy, so I have to remember, stop overthinking and stay the course!

This week was an interesting one! I noticed another CalMag issue, so I went in with an aggressive feed and I think I may have overdone it, so I am in a bit of an adjustment mode for this, and into next week.

Day 38: 2 Liters
4 ml Support
1 ml Flower
1/2 tsp Stash Blend
ph 6.65 ec .71

She responded well to this one, maybe a few CalMag spot issues. Runoff showed fine levels and normal PH

Day 40: 2 liters (too aggressive of a feed!)
5 ml Support
1 ml Flower
1/2 ml Expand
1/2 ml Structure
ph 6.88 ec 1.5

This one was too high for sure. I knew it going it and should have trusted myself, but I thought she could take it given how healthy she was looking. I am my own worst enemy haha!

Day 42: 2 Liters
2 ml Support
1/2 tsp Stash Blend
ph 6.88 ec .8

I dropped flower nutrients for this one after the big feed, but I think I could have left out Stash too. She showed some more signs of overfeeding after this one. Runoff PH was normal BUT EC was massive at 3.

Day 44: 2 liters
2 ml Support
ph 6.4 ec .50

Burnt tips and clawing on some leaves show me definite signs of overfeeding, so I measured runoff again. BIG PH SWING!

PH measured at 4.9, so we need to bring it back up over the next few waters and keep it up with the CalMag over the next two waters before bringing in flower nutrients at a max of 1 ec moving forward.

THAT BEING SAID, she is looking fantastic and I am being hard on myself haha. Her buds are stacking and there is some slight frost developing. I am taking a few leaves here and there to maximize light exposure, but hopefully we can recover from the PH swing heading into week 7!

It has been a great week for this beauty recovering from a high ec and possible overfeed last week. I have been keeping the feeds below 1 ec in general, ranging from .5 to .7, and she has responded well!

There are some burnt tips across the whole plant, but I have brought the runoff ec from 3 to 2, and my most recent measurement (Day 53) was 1.9.

Based on this, it looks like she is eating around .5 to .6 ec in between feeds, so I am going to keep it around that for the next few waters before I begin to taper off and let her finish up.

I am very impressed with her bud stacking. I did very light training on this one, but I feel as if there are several beautiful colas developing, many the size of a pair of normal trimming scissors. Happy days heading into week 8!

I am going to add some FlaVUH in the next few waters to help with terpines and finishing, but all in all, I am happy! Good vibes heading into week 8!

Here are my waters for this week:

9/18 (Day 45): 2 liters
2.5 ml Ventana Plant Science Support
ec .72
ph 6.8 (adjusting for previous high PH)
Runoff ec - 2.3
Runoff ph - 6.61

9/20 (Day 47): 2 liters
2.5 ml Ventana Plant Science Support
ec .72
ph 6.8 (adjusting for previous high PH)
Runoff ec - 1.9
Runoff ph - 6.5

9/22 (Day 49): 2 liters
2 ml Ventana Plant Science Support
2 ml Ventana Plant Science Flower
.5 ml Ventana Plant Science Structure
ec .71
ph 6.34 (adjusting for previous high PH)
Runoff ec - 4.9 (only got 50 ml runoff so didn’t think this was too crazy, likely concentrated)
Runoff ph - 5.9

9/24 (Day 51): 2 liters
2.5 ml Ventana Plant Science Support
ec .65
ph 6.7
Runoff ec - 2.1
Runoff ph - 6.1

9/26 (Day 53): 2 liters
2.5 ml Ventana Plant Science Support
ec .58
ph 6.64
Runoff ec - 1.9
Runoff ph - 6.24

I am very impressed with her bud stacking. I did very light training on this one, but I feel as if there are several beautiful colas developing, many the size of a pair of normal trimming scissors. Happy days heading into week 8!

I am going to add some FlaVUH in the next few waters to help with terpines and finishing, but all in all, I am happy! Good vibes heading into week 8!
