Goal for the Grow:
I learned a lot from my last two autos. They were the first two where I exclusively used distilled water for my main water source, and I ran into HUGE CalMag problems. I should have reasoned that I would need to replace a base of CalMag in each water regardless of adding actual nutrients as a part of my feeding schedule, but lesson learned!
For this grow, I will be adding a base of Ventana Plant Science Support (4 - 0 - 0 CalMag) to each of my waters. I will be adjusting that base throughout the grow, as well as adding other nutrients based on plant cycle.
Another goal for this Z-Up Auto is to severely limit any stress during the first 21 to 28 days of the growing cycle. During my last 5 autos, I have heavily LST’d starting around day 20, thinking that high plant manipulation would lead to better light exposure and better yields, but for this one, I want to try the opposite. I am going to do no training until flower, and even then, training will consist of some stake and tying, subtle manipulation.
In terms of lighting, I am going to rock a 24-hour light cycle for the first time, at least through vegetation and pre-flower. I may cut back to 22/2 once flowering starts, but I wanted to do a plant at 24 hour just to see the results. I think Z-Up is a great candidate for this, and let’s see what happens!
Germination: OrganiPlugs
Z-Up Auto will be grown in a mixture of 1.5 Gallons loosely packed Happy Frog and around a quart of perlite with 2 tablespoons of Xtreme Mykos added to the substrate.
I germinated her in a bit newer method for me, using OrganiPlugs. Thus far, I have been able to germinate and successfully grow about 10 plants using this method, and it is super easy!
All I do is add the seed to the plug, place it into the tray (I cut a 6 x 2 piece from the 50 piece propagation tray they sell), placed the tray into a ziplock bag with a bit of air, and wrapped the bag in a few towel rags to prevent light penetration. I added a squirt of distilled water (about 5 - 10 ml) into the bad Once wrapped, I placed in a saucer and put it into my 2 x 4 tent (which is running 20/4 for my other autos).
In about 3 days, the seedling emerged and a nice taproot sprung from the bottom of the cube, easy peasy! The OrganiPlugs really help me feel confident in the process and I must say, they are nice to use! Plus, I get to add some Mykos when I add the plug into the soil, which is a huge benefit in the process.
I did just that! I added around a tablespoon in and around the planting site into my 2-gallon pot and planted her gently.
Through week one, things are looking good!
Watering is super simple. On day 3, I gave 50 ml around the OrganiPlug and 200 ml in a circle around 2 inches from the seedling site.
Day 3:
On day 7, I gave another 50 ml on/around the OrganiPlug and upped the water to 300 ml in the same circle.
Day 7:
I expect to see some great growth throughout the next week, and I will likely introduce some vegetative nutrients at 1/4 strength for one water.
Day 8:
Good vibes heading into week 2!
