yes @70sChick , I can’t wait to see how big the GL can grow next year! And whatever else gets started. So many choices!
I know @bythesea .Each time I order, the choices are so tough. Heck I think I want to try them all! Baahaaa… It’s almost come down to “eeney meeny miny moe” It’s so hard to decide!
Update! Sept 4 2017
Back in town, I headed to the greenhouse to check on the girls. I grabbed the loupe and shoved my eyeball up close to look at those little trichomes. Well! Now I know how milky is different from clear, and how amber looks too. So yes, I could see a few amber trichomes. I’m curious, not all of the buds on my plants matured at the same rate, is that normal? Anyway, those amber trichomes were all the excuse I needed to go ahead and harvest. Sprout date was anywhere from June 15-19, so that puts these plants at around 11 weeks. They didn’t get very big, but hey, they’re hanging in the shed now and that’s what counts.
continued…
Meanwhile, the GL girl continues to thrive. She was planted at the same time as the BBA in the post above, and is about 11 weeks old. I guess she’s close to 4’ tall and seems very healthy. I know 4’ isn’t a monster plant, but I’m pretty happy with how she’s doing. Now that she’s flowering, I now she won’t be getting much taller, so the fun is watching the buds fill out.
And finally, the late addition BBA, now at about 5 weeks old. Her pistils were showing last week, and I didn’t think she’d get much bigger. The I go away for a week and she does just that. She is bigger than the first round of BBAs that I planted, and then transplanted late. Maybe because the auto-flowers are in such a hurry they are more sensitive to being transplanted. Late start was transplanted at 2 weeks, and now she is bigger than her earlier sisters at the same age. Does that make sense? The pic makes her look leggier than I think she is. I suppose the point that really matters is the harvested bud weight. We’ll see.
Well, the BBa girls are harvested, and the resulting crop is in the freezer. A month or so ago, I trimmed some low buds from one of the plants and put them into brown paper bags. The last few nights I’ve taken those buds on a test drive. Pretty happy with the results. Ended up with just under 2 oz for the 3 plants, It could’ve been a bit more, but I found that 2 of the main colas got moldy. I wondered why the buds were turning brown in the middle, and when I was cleaning the buds today I saw what caused the problem.
The picture didn’t turn out so great, but yeah. There is fuzzy stuff in some of my weed. Fortunately, most of the buds were not affected. Poor circulation and high (higher than normal for us) humidity are the most likely culprits.
The GL plant just keep going, some pistils are faintly amber now. And the little late addition BBa is doing well to, those two girls are just working on making fat buds.
Things are so quiet around here… I’m just watching buds.

Lots of crystals!
Uh Oh! Things aren’t cruising along as smoothly as I thought. I was conducting morning inspection in the greenhouse, and noticed some dry, brown leaves on one of the lower buds. Is it bud rot?
The affected area is grayish, and soft. I don’t know if its the right thing to do, but I pinched out the affected bud and started looking very closely at the entire plant. I found two or three other buds that looked similar, except without the brown leaves.
I also found this in one of the affected areas:
Its small, maybe 1/4" or just a bit bigger. And I found the empty husk of another. Now I don’t know if I have a pest problem, a bud rot problem or both.

@hogmaster @bob31 @Countryboyjvd1971
Could yall take a look
This member is dealing with pest and bud rot
Certainly looks like you have a pest issue I would start looking very closely at each bud the catipilers bored into the bud I believe
And yes that does look like bud rot is starting
@kabongster posted a link to a good thread about how to deal with it
Let me see if I can find the link
I tagged you into the thread @bythesea
Good luck I don’t have much info on the bugs
@latewood could probably help more with that
@Countryboyjvd1971 @Nug-bug @bythesea
mold, cut out the bad part with a healthy border around it to make sure you got it all, throw it away, far from your plant, in a bag, get the bad part away from the good, spores dry and spread way too easily…
Good advice @kabongster and ty for sharing the link
I would trim out all of the affected parts asap. Then another thorough inspection for pests.
Keep us posted @bythesea
Thank you, @Nug-bug
Thank you, @Countryboyjvd1971
And thank you @kabongster and @bob31.
You’re very welcome and don’t forget to update us!
Bud Rot update:
This fine sunny morning, I took my baking soda/H2O solution down to the greenhouse, searching for more of the dreaded bud rot. From the main cola on down, I thoroughly inspected every bud and branch. I did find one more area with bud rot, on a GL branch bud. I sprayed the solution on it, hoping that would kill any spores present, and then removed and discarded the bud. Here is a pic of the rotten bud.
In hindsight, the mold I found in some buds after I dried the BBa harvest was likely bud rot, it just hadn’t infected the entire plant.
On a happier note, I didn’t find any additional bud rot on BBa #3 or any pests on either plant. If I can keep the bud rot in check, I think the GL is just a couple of weeks from harvest. She still has many fine looking buds.
