Now go listen to some Syd Barrett Pink Floyd. To quote Star Trek, he boldly went where no man had gone before.

Thats the only album Syd Barred was in, some in the Saucerful of Secrets.

Hello again,
Sorry I came out a bit arrogant in my reply about Syd Barret but i was honestly surprise and wanted to make sure that’s who you mean, were you a big fan of Syd Barret when he was in Pink Floyd? Not sure if he ever recorded solo,

No worries. In answer to your question yes. I was a fan and yes he did record some solo work . After his mental break, he was never the same.

Theres a book about how it all went down. Its pretty crazy that they didn’t tell him he wasn’t in the band for awhile. There’s some bits in “The Wall” that are referring supposedly to Syd directly? “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” was about him. The cigarette burned to the filter in Waters hand was a story about Syd. Waters says “Pink” is him. It’s a very interesting topic to read about and adds to the bands enigmatic personality.

Interesting, but I have my doubts.
The Wall was written by Roger
Waters.
Wish You Were Here it’s for Syd, that’s known, I don’t think The Wall is because of many factors, as I said it’s mostly a Roger Waters album, that he wanted to make, The Wall is heavy on politics, war, social issues, and the problem of a socialist in a capitalist economy, they say some it’s taken from Waters life, like the father dead at war. But maybe some it’s dedicated to him and i just dont know
Anyhow, Waters still has a bit of extreme political views; they say that was one of the reasons the band split, with Waters leaving the band.
Waters also won the rights for The Wall in court

I was surprised because most people would say Gilmour or Waters, unfortunately, Syd’s talent wasn’t allow to develop to the best, i think. Idk too much about him, i dont like the first albums of Pink Floyd

Yes. I misspoke or wrote. Roger has insisted that “Pink” is himself. People have pointed out the similarities to Syd as well. The cigarette thing was in the book I had read. Syds roomate would say he was going out for smokes and would go to band practice. He came back once to find Syd catatonic with a cigarette burnt to the butt in his fingers. He said Syd came to and asked if he got cigarettes. I always remember that scene in “The Wall”. Jim Morrison is like “Hey, this post was about me…”

The band actually said that “Crazy Diamond” was an homage to Syd. I think he got inducted as a member of Floyd to the RRHOF? The were definitely better after him. I try to get into weird eclectic stuff. It rarely impresses me but the background stories are always intriguing. Like Daniel Johnston of Kirk Cobain fame. I think Crumb was another weird story that made its way up to pop culture?

O my, I like you lots
Certainly, “Shine on…” is for Syd Barret. I was not aware of the cigarette thing, but it makes lots of sense. In the end, forgive me if I am wrong, Waters and Barret were the original members of Pink Floyd? While Gilmour joined later?
Don’t get me started with The Wall and also Kurt, I intensely analysed both, I am sure you watched “The Montage of Heck” of Kurt.
Idk the other artists you mentioned; sorry I am in the UK, originally Italian. One of my biggest pride in knowing English is understanding song lyrics.

Totally believe the cigarettes thing, Barret was heavy into lsd, like the rest of them at that time.
And i tried, God knows i tried :joy: to like The Piper…" i just dont get those kind of children songs,
and to an extend “Saucerceful of Secrets” and “Ummugamma” “Atom heartMotherr”, some do have some amazing sounds and great music,
But Echos, Animals and so on, really are the Pink Floyd

You’re too kind. No apologies needed.

Syd and Roger grew up together. They initially formed the band as Abdabs, The Screaming Abdabs, Sigma 6, The Meggadeaths(), Tea Set and othe variants of those names. Syd and David would do occasional acoustic gigs together. Typical local music scene and off they went. Gilmour, I think is really the heart of the sound that we all know and love as Pink Floyd. Waters is kinda pathetic these days IMO.

Kirk… that’s so tragic. He was an amazing musician. I had a guitar teacher that played Texas Swing music for 60 years and was a traditional country artist. He once told me Kirk was the most phenomenal music writer he’d ever come across. You can hear his influence in everything Dave Grohl does to this day.

Crumb is an American cartoonist. He had a pretty disturbed upbringing and its reflected in his art. There is a documentary about him that called “Crumb”. Its a peek into a very dark soul and how it finds its way out.

I’ve not seen this. I’ve read his diaries. I mostly read or listen to books or podcasts.

Gilmour, it’s a lot of Pink Floyd, but Waters wrote some of the best compositions and The Wall.
I think they need each other, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that when separated, they could achieve some success but never Pink Floyd level. The Division Bell, the first without Waters, isn’t bad, but it’s not the level as with Waters. I think Gilmour and Waters were the Pink Floyd.
It’s amazing what your teacher said about Kurt and how talented he was, more than i knew. his MTV Unplugged was named the best of them all.
Iknow of Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters and know a couple of songs, i am not a massive metal, Grunge music, defenetly not Glamour Rock like Motley Crue
though the best ballads come from metal rock
You wanna watch “Montage of Heck”, you do.

I’ll check The “Crumb” out

Well spoken. I will look into the movie. I saw some stuff this morning with Buzz and Crover bitching about and calling it bullsh!+. I never liked the whole Courtney Love ordeal. I was thoroughly engaged in Dinosaur jr. in the late 80’s. They had their own drama going.

Hey, can you tell me the Italian word for mosquito? My 9yo says it is “zenzada”?I’ve been using it at work in my best italian accent, thinking though, I’m trusting a 9yo for my language reference. I will check out “Montage…”.
