This is my first time growing, and I’m super excited! My good friend @BobWags has been helping me, but I figured it was time to start my own journal. I’m growing white widow strain, and the seed sprouted on February 7th. She started growing in a 2 quart container with very hot Black Gold and then was transferred into a 3 gallon container with Roots Organic Original. She was originally under 450 Watt LED lights until about 2 weeks ago when she was moved to a 30inX16inX33in grow area under 6500 CFL lights. She hasn’t had any nutrients added yet, but I have been doing liquid bone meal with water and a little cal mag was also given to her. I’m going to add some General Hydroponics Flora Duo that Bob gave me next time I water her!
If anybody has thoughts or suggestions for me I am all ears and greatly appreciate any and all input! Thanks in advance everyone, you guys are great!!
I was wondering what happened to you. Welcome back and good to see your journal.
Have a two questions.
-This is one single plant ?
Switch to CFL from LED ? This is unusual unless you are trying to keep the size down due to the grow room size. That is one thing I do because my grow space is only 17x18x48. The CFL has limited penetration vs the LED and slows the upward growth of the plant. I veg my plants for half the time in CFL and then finish veg and flowering in LED. I have a 300 watt Mars that has been doing very good.
OK, now I understand ! There is nothing wrong with CFL for finishing the grow.
One suggestion when you go to flowering, try to get some 2700 CFL’s for the flowering. Helps a lot with the buds and flowering. I had a hard time getting 2700 bulbs on my grow so part of the time I used half 6500 and half 2700. It came out pretty good. As I mentioned earlier, CFL has a limited penetration so if you want the plants to stretch a little, move the CFL’s a little farther away from the canopy. Then you can lower the lights closer to the canopy.
Another trick I heard for CFL lights is to have them at different heights on the sides so the lower parts of the plant also get more light.
Hey there @blazedbarista44 I wanted to say hello again and tell you I’m happy that you decided to get your own thread going
Will be following along with the rest of the peeps if you need anything just tag me
Thanks @bob31 for answering their questions and for the luck! And @TxGrowman, yes this is one single plant, and those sound like great suggestions so I’ll definitely give those a try! I was also planning to get one or two 2700 CFL’s to use during vegetative before I put her into flowering which @BobWags suggested!
Thanks for all the responses guys! I’ll keep everyone updated as I continue growing!
Jerry, I think she has only about 3 feet height to work with. I think we might have to eventually set up a scrog for her.
I suggested to her that she should add a 2700 k bulb. I’ve been listening to Harley Smith’s online classes and he says that full spectrum throughout veg is beneficial. But only a slight 27k addition is all one needs. So it can’t hurt. It’s too bad you have such a hard time finding those bulbs. I’ve seen them here in Boston in Home Depot. Pretty easy to come by in this area.
@TxGrowman, I have found them on amazon but they are the spiral medium base type… They are expensive buggers… I was looking at getting 65 watt bulbs at 2700k and they were about 15 dollars each… I think the brand was Luxrite I something like that… Satco and GE make them as well but again they are not cheap
@BobWags I agree that full spectrum is best for the whole grow. That is why I do not use the switches on my LED lights, I leave both light spectrums on during the whole grow. A while back, I believe it was latewood or Macguyver that told me to use all spectrums all the time. It has worked well for me.
I had problems getting CFL’s for a while but now the local Home Depot has a stock of them and they are always running out or on re-order. Guess I know what is being grown in my area ! LOL
You mentioned cost, which they are expensive. That is why I was going to suggest to @blazedbarista44 if grows are in the future, it might be cheaper to invest in an LED that will cover the space well. As I mentioned though, the CFL’s do have the advantage of not stretching as much as the LED’s due to limited light penetration. That is espscially inportant whe I saw that the grow space was small. I use CFL’s in the first half of vegging if I am growing in my small grow box. It seems to control the size well. I switch to LED for the finish. Have a great day brother. Jerry
@TxGrowman
Agreed. When she moves at the end of summer we will convince her to buy a small tent and a small LED unit for her second grow. As soon as she gets a few buds off her first plant she will be hooked on growing.
Have you recently seen the explosive growth on my plants?
