White mold on top of coco

Hello everyone,
My plants are 40 days old now in a 70/30 coco/perlite mix in airpots. Coco brand is Canna Coco Professional Plus. Feeding with an automated watering system twice a day till runoff, and by hand once a week. Using Advanced Nutrients Coco Line, currenty fed Sensi Coco Grow A+B, B52, Voodoo Juice, Piranha, Tarantula, Rhino Skin, Sensizym and Bud Candy.

5 days ago this white fuzzy mold was on the top of the coco, mostly near the edges, not near the stem. The pic is not mine, but that’s what it looks like:

I cleaned it off with a spoon scooping up the affected parts and watered the plant with 1.5 Ltrs of water mixed with a dash of Hydrogen Peroxide 35%. I am now in the process of reintroducing Voodoo Juice, Piranha and Tarantula as the Hydrogen Peroxide would have wiped those out, right? The problem is, yesterday it started growing again.

I was researching about this and some forum posts were saying it could be beneficial bacteria like Mycorrhizae? Is this from the beneficials I am adding like Voodoo Juice, Piranha and Tarantula? Or is this dangerous and I should see how to treat it? This is my 6th grow, and I have never encountered this before and I’ve been using the same nutes and coco for all the grows.

I am worried about this because my last grow one of my plants got similar white mold on the buds in the last week of flowering on the top main colas and I had to throw almost the whole plant away.

I should also mention that I am seeing a few fungus gnats in case that has something to do with it.

Thanks in advance for any help everyone.
@Low just grabbing your attention about this if you have the time, since you’re using automated watering in coco also, maybe you have any experience with this?

Looks like mycos

Thanks for the quick replies guys. Really appreciate it.

@Budbrother So it’s beneficial? Cause I was going to water with hydrogen peroxide again today but if you’re saying it’s good I’ll leave it I guess. This can’t spread up to the top and affect the buds? The mold I got last grow looked quite similar to it and had to trash almost everything from that plant.

Any advice on the fungus gnats? I’m setting up yellow sticky cards.

Yes beneficial. It forms a symbiotic relationship with the roots.

You can see it here assisting in the removal of the helmet. It stays in/on the ground, and it’s not the botrytis (bud rot) you had.

Thanks for such prompt assistance @Budbrother , really appreciate the peace of mind. Just clarifying, this is the bud rot/mold I had:

Why did this mycos growing on the top coco never happen before if I’ve been using the same nutes for 6 grows and only popped up now?

Regarding the fungus gnats and the product you listed, I’ll need to see if I can find it in my country. I read that mosquitoe bits is really good treatment for them too but can’t get it here. I suppose anything with BTI will do?

Thanks again for the help, really appreciate it.

Botrytis - Grey mold shown aka Bud Rot

I’m not familiar with your products. :down_arrow: maybe one of them adding mycos.

Yup but the bits are weak and don’t help much with complete eradication

Thanks again for your multiple replies @Budbrother Really appreciate the time and patience.

Glad to know it’s not the same as Botrytis, that was truly heartbreaking last grow, still have PTSD seeing anything that resembles it.

Could be the Piranha, this is from their product page, sounds like it if it’s the same types of mycos we are seeing:

I see, thanks for that. I can’t get them here anyway, neither the Microbe-lift BMC you showed me :frowning: it’ll cost 70 euros (around 80 usd) to import a small 6oz bottle. I’ll have a look around the growshops here for something similar.

Yup that’s the one. It has both endo and ecto mycos

Doing the math - That’s 177.44 ml so 177 doses. 1 ml treats 5 gal of pond water. So a 1 ml/4 L is a strong dose to multiple of your pots at ~$.45 a dose. Possibly it’s a long term investment that doesn’t go bad since the BTI is in stasis. :man_shrugging:t2:

Awesome, glad to know we found where it’s coming from and no need for concern  still weird it never happened before unless they started adding this stuff in now.

Looking at it like that and that it has a very long shelf life makes perfect sense to get one and have it on the shelf, especially providing 177 doses. Thanks!

Thank you @Budbrother , you’ve truly been awesome and really helped me out a bunch today, and put my mind at ease. Learned some new stuff today too! Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! Happy growing brother!
