When to tranfer rockwool seedling into hydo system

Newbie to hydro and need advice on when to introduce rockwool seedling into permanent system. Cotyledons and first set came up overnight and just showing taproot out from bottom of cube, so it’s young. How extensive should root system be, and how to i get it there without getting it too wet/dry. Experienced w soil, but this is new. I have a cube tray and cover, but not sure how to optimize its use. Does that exposed root need access to moisture? Help

Are you placing in clay pebbles

I have hydro setup and as soon as mine gets 2-3 inches tall I move mine in to my clay pebbles. Can you share a picture of your hydroponic setup and your seedlings

Do i need to have water available to exposed roots, but no contact with the rockwool so it doesn’t get logged? Light is sonlipo set on seedling, 25%, at 30". Not experienced from here w moisture levels going forward. Tent is in climate controlled shed.

You will be top-watering until the taproot reaches nutrient solution. Then discontinue top-watering. Make sure you have lots of air directly underneath the plant and keep liquid level 1 1/2 to 2" below net pot.

Is it necessary? It’s in rockwool in a small basket. I was just going to put well basket in hole and use netting.

Thank you. That makes sense, but was concerned about roots in air prior to reaching basin nutrient. So go ahead and put baskets into holes, but have solution close by and avaliable for roots to drop into? I take it roots will be ok in that dark environment prior to water contact?

Running air will atomize liquid and bathe the roots.

That’s perfect, we have a different system. Next grow if you like I’ll tag you and send you pictures of my setup. Looks like a nice set up you have. Good luck on your grow. Oh and welcome to the community. These growers here will help, just ask. They are very experienced growers.

That’s a lot of rock wool and would advise being careful with top watering and dampening off the tiny stem. Didn’t notice any room for the hydroton Growmie :love_you_gesture:

I didn’t know about the clay. How shoud i remedy the volume of rockwool? I gues i should address that now while it’s still new. So just a little rockwool and surround w hydroton?

I use a 1” rock wool cube for germing seeds and add the hydroton to the 3” net cup bottom then add the seedling and surround and support the sides with hydroton :love_you_gesture:

thanks for tagging me @OGIncognito @Pineroot I put my seeds directly into the rockwool/basket (just like yours) and then directly into my tote/reservoir with a mild nutrient solution…the nutrient level is about 3 inches below the net pot and the bubbling from the air stones supplies the rockwool with just enough moisture for them to grow…this has worked for me …
