When to start in NorCal?

For those in Northern California, when do you start your seeds? I have waited until mid-May in the past but was thinking about getting an earlier start this year.

@Big123 you’re in the neighborhood: can you help a fellow grower out?

I am near Sacramento, Southern NorCal, I started germination of beans 4/2/25.

Some folks like to wait till May/June so the plants don’t get as big, if the weather window looks good early April is a green light.

Waxing Gibbous Libra :libra: moon today, Full moon tomorrow.

The moon is still waxing phase, it’s in an air sign, drop it like it’s hot :sun::fire::rocket:

We’re a little further up in the hills, but the weather is looking pretty good. I may go ahead and start them now but keep them in small pots in case we get any really cold overnight temps. Thanks!

What do you have planted? Are they some type of companion plants?

You could start them indoors for a few weeks then stickem outside. As was said, starting earlier will result in bigger plants unless your growing autos

Check your soil temps, should be in 60s or 70s, otherwise back indoors

I have feverfew planted in a few different places, and some volunteer clovers, plus some fava beans I planted in November as cover crop.

I’m around 50 feet above sea level, if it gets too cold, I have brought them in my shed at night, or use mini-greenhouses.
