Hello all. So I am trying to further understand when to ph the water in a DWC. Starting with a fresh tank and setting the ph at 5.5 I notice typically within a couple of days the PH is up to around 7.0. As the plant sucks up nutrients the water ph starts to rise. I get that they absorb different nutrients at different ph levels so is probably good to let it do it’s thing for at least a few days. How long is the question though? Say you change your DWC water once a week should you ph it 2 or 3 times between?

Optimally, you want ph to maintain 5.8. It’s not gonna hurt if it dips up and down. 5.5 - 6.5
What are you feeding and what are you growing in… bucket, tote,… etc.
If you can fill this out it will help folks here to help a lot better.

How fast are your ppm’s falling… ?
Say you start the week with 500 ppm’s and in the middle of the week your ppm’s are at 425 and ph jumped to 6.2 from 5.8…
I would just top off with good ph’d water at 5.8 to 6.0…
If I checked in the middle of the week and ppm’s were down to 325 from 500 and ph was 6.8 or higher , I would add some base nutrients and ph to 5.8…
In other words , if you ppm’s and ph aren’t fluctuating that much than I would just top off with good water until the end of the week when your going to change everything out anyway’s…
If ppm’s and ph are fluctuating big time by middle of the week , then I would add some base nutrients and ph accordingly… 
It’s not a bad thing to let your ph drift from 5.5 to 6.8 , no lower or higher tho…

daily…things change. neglect to ph and easy to lose plants.
5.8 PH works best for me.
