When to add CalMag?

I’m growing a Dynafem high CBD plant in coco. She’s on a feed feed water schedule, and every other feeding she gets a dose of CalMag, meaning every three days. She’s 82 days old and 31 days into 12/12. Some of the lower fan leaves are drying up and falling off but I’m assuming…hoping…that that’s normal for her “age”. The question is: am I overdoing it with the CalMag or should I keep giving it as I’ve been doing? @Myfriendis410 I know you’re a Coco grower, what do you say? Thanks for any help.

I think it depends on the solids present in your water. If you are using R/O or distilled, you’re doing great. If your muni water has gypsum (calcium sulfate) for example then the need to add cal mag goes down. I don’t think you are hurting it by doing so. I usually bias toward the low end of the recommended schedule and in my case that’s 1 tsp per gallon. I am now running R/O but this is a soil grow I’m on now.

What’s R/O? I’m using rainwater, but the air here is pretty badly polluted so who knows how much of that ends up in the rain barrel too. I add 6ml./ 3 liter or, in American, less than half a tablespoon to almost a gallon. Should I add a bit less maybe?

That sounds perfect, Alan! Rainwater is still going to be low solids and a lot better than municipal water. R/O is reverse osmosis and produces pure water. I think your cal mag schedule is right on!

Cool! Thanks, buddy! I checked…5ml. is one teaspoon so I’m pretty good with the amount. I’m really excited about the medical weed, my wife uses cbd oil regularly and loves it but it’s expensive and not always available in backwards Belgium. Plus I’ve got a Blue Dream in the tent for messing up the head. Thanks for your help, next vape is in your honor!

It’s only fair: I had some Girl Scout Cookies in your honor lol.

I actually found that when using ro water and the promix bx @Myfriendis410 that i need to add calmag or start nutrients early since all the minerals have been stripped out during filtration process but i tbink your right on track as far as this situation just sharing my experiences brothers

I think I have reverse osmosis of the brain, everything goes in but nothing comes out. I was just curious about the CalMag as I know a lot of times coco has a deficiency and since I’m pretty close to the end of the grow with the lower leaves getting weird, first I wanted to make sure I wasn’t O.D.ing the plant with CalMag. Thanks for your help, brothers! @Myfriendis410 @Countryboyjvd1971

You should be cutting back on your calmag around weeks six of flower @DieHigh55 this allows the plant to eat its self up and use the stores in the leaves just a FYI brother

Let’s see…day 34…that’s right about where I am. Cutting back begins! Thanks, brother, and bon apetit while you eat yourself up, plant.

Yeah, instead of every 3 days, I’ll make it 6 for now and give an extra dose of Cannaboost instead. Pistols are just starting to turn brown so I hope end of the month harvest.

I don’t know what other answers you got here but, here is mine. Yes You are overdoing it. Most times CalMag is not needed at all unless you see a deficiency developing. Continuing to feed CalMag 31 days into flower is going to make the taste profile found wanting.

It is not uncommon for new growers to overuse CalMag. Almost all Base nutrient systems contain plenty of Calcium and Magnesium to finish an entire grow without the introduction of CalMag. If you develop an issue, it is more likely caused by incorrect of “off” PH than it is because you need to add CalMag.

hope this helps. lw

It does…thanks. Think I should be cutting back on all the nutes (all canna products at around 80% recommended dosage)? Because it’s coco, I wouldn’t want to starve the poor thing. I figure I have about a month or more left until harvest.
