When does flower stage really start?

Hello Guys and Gals this is my first grow to make it past seedling stage lol…i am now on day 78 of my grow 12 days into 12/12 lighting. I am wondering when exactly does it change from ‘pre-flower’ to flower stage?? What should i look for? When should i start counting??

When pistils first appear at the tips of the plant. They usually appear a week to 10 days from the flip.

@Wayne89 I was told the day that it looks like small hedge hogs hair on all bud sites is the day to start counting as day 1 of flower.

So that’s what i did.

Over head shot is Garlic Jam after 1 week of flower. Other photo is a group photo Garlic Jam in the middle. Rest are purple caper super chocolate. I’m calling them day one flower. Some pistils on the buttons. Garlic Jam looked like those a week ago.

I do not worry about when they are officially in flower as I harvest based upon trichomes.

I start counting “days in flower” when I flip to flower. That is a day that all of my plants agree on. Each of them takes a different number of days to finish the transition so, technically, they would each have a different number.

Except when I see a problem with one plant, I treat them all the same throughout the grow.

You should note that most folks DO NOT do it this way so far as I can tell from reading thousands of posts. Most folks estimate when they are officially in flower. :vulcan_salute: :man_mage:

Edit: When I grow autos I don’t even worry about when they started flowering. When all of the pistils have turned red and receded, I start checking trichomes.
