I was looking for a better grow light before I start my next indoor grow. The one I used was: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HFC7HV5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It’s a "1000w LED grow light with full-spectrum LED. It honestly didn’t give a great yield, and the light was causing the tips of the leaves to dry and curl up, so I moved it up as much as I could. It was my first indoor grow, so I learned a lot along the way. Upon reading, I found this light as a HLG grow light: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C57J7XX/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
and I was wondering if this would be a good choice for my 4’ x 2’ grow tent. Please let me know if this would be a good choice
That is a good light. Anything from HLG will be awesome. If you can spare another 40 bucks, I would go with the 150 Patriot. Based on the wattage of the one you linked, it will not be quite enough to get you through flower. The 150 is not quite enough for your space but if you are only growing one plant it will be plenty. There are a few rules of thumb in regard to good lighting based on your space. 32w per sq. ft. is one good one. Based on your footprint you would need about 250w to cover the whole flowering footprint. Also and you don’t have to worry about the diodes in HLG’s but whatever light you decide on, look for Samsung 301 diodes. From my own personal experience and going through 4 lights to date in the last 8 months, your light decision IMO will be the most important decision you will make in regard to your grow.
Here is an example of 2 grows same strain of GFOG at the same week. Difference is not even close.
1st grow using a 60w for the first 6-7 weeks. Then I got rid of that and got a MArs TS1000, then added another to finish her out. This pic is at 5 weeks
2nd grow right now still in the tent at 8 weeks but here she is at the same 5 week mark
@Bonjoyle is right about HLG. It’s too notch. If you plan on filling your tent with plants you need at least 30 watts of LED per square foot. I use the 350R in a 2x4 and love it at a little over 40 watts per SQ foot.
Neither will be good enough for flower. You will need 300w in a 2x4 for flower. Hlg has a sale right now. Id definitely recommend the diablo 350g. I had all ac infinity stuff prior but couldn’t get my dli high enough (wasted $300). I recently got a refurbed Diablo 350r 25% off and have absolutely plenty of dli for flower.
@Seraphina If you look back at my post, you will see I gave the wattage needed for your tent and the reply above is not accurate. A 150 will definitely flower 1 plant. The only reason it would not be enough for your tent is if you were trying to flower more than 1 plant in there. Then AK’s reply is accurate. Wanted to clarify that for you since you are asking an important question.
Got mine for $409 refurbished and that was a great deal. With the 25% off you won’t find anything even close to the 350R for that price.
I got super lucky. HLG was at the Denver Cannacon and had 1 new display model 2023 350r with the new evo diodes. They gave it to me at 60%. I paid $350.00 for my 350!! That light is a beast. I have yet to turn it up past the 6th click. 3.11 umols
That’s awesome. Its definitely worth full price so any discount on it is just icing on the cake. Same deal on the settings for me. I got to 6/9 briefly and had to back it down to 5.
Do you have any links for that light? I’ll be growing around 3-4 plants in my 4’ x 2’
Just got to horticulturelightinggroup(dot)com and click on the menu. Click catalog then refurbished lamps. Right now the refurb version gets you a $600 light for $300.
I posted a link above.
go to horticulturelightinggroup DOT com
We can only direct link to amazon.
If looking to buy a HLG light buy it direct from them at the above address. Call them if you have questions or request a recommendation based on $$ to spend and size of tent. HLG is great to work with and is very accommodating.
If you can turn a screw driver and follow directions a light kit offers additional options. For example, the 320W XL fits a 2x4 nicely. Ask about 10% discount code or other specials.
I have several 260W V2 Rspec lights and they produce quality buds.
I feel like this would be a good fit for the price being around $600 before any coupons. That wouldn’t be too much light?
Definitely overkill for a 2x4 but if you upgrade down the road you will have enough.
Get the 350 with uv and your plants will love you.
Man we are on the same page
Another 350 user for my 2x4 here. Hell of a light. I don’t have a UV booster, but may add one someday.
You can always cruise on notch two or three all the way through the grow. I barely go aver half on the 350R. I’d go for the 650R over the 600RSpec if you go the high power route. @Blastfact runs dual 350Rs in a 2x4. He just got a 650R for his 3x3. No such thing as too much light as long as it fits in the tent and has a dimmer. I’d make sure I had a small light for seedlings though.
What I look for in a grow light that I don’t think anyone is mentioned is your ppfd map. You want anywhere from 400 to 600 when you veg . 100 to 300 when you have ceilings. And close to 1,000 or more for flowering. I went with phlizon fd6500.
If that’s not in your price range maybe try to find one that has as much ppfd as you can for the money. Good luck
If you go by PPFD I would likely only trust the data from 3rd party. Many of these lighting companies are known for less than accurate output claims.
