Dumb question- what does perlite do?

A lot of people here are using MarsHydro and are having successful grows :ok_hand:

Mediums like soil and Coco tend to compact after watering. The perlite will allow for better drainage. Remember you can’t really over water. But you can water to often in soil, that’s not a issue so much in Soil-less mediums like coco.

Haven’t used coast of Maine, but I would recommend roots original over anything fox farms has to offer. If nothing else it’s way more consistent from bag to bag. Also doesn’t seem to have compaction issues ff stuff has.

You’re correct. Roots Organic line from Aurora Innovations. “Original” is just one of the blends they offer.

OK it’s time to get off here, I just ran out of likes :+1:

I’m going to pick your brain about a issue I’m having with one of the PLC Lights. No hurry, I’ll wait until this grow is over and get some advice about what’s going on :+1:

Stolen from an internet search
Perlite is a naturally occurring mineral that is added to garden soil to improve aeration, water retention and drainage . It looks like small, white Styrofoam balls and is commonly found in potting soil and seed-starting mixes.

For me…there is not one is best. Its whats best for you. I love Fox Farm soils and nutrients. It works great for how I grow. If that makes any sense.

Obviously like Miracl-Gro isn’t Cannabis friendly. But some have been successful with it. More misses than hits. For house plants it works perfectly.

Coco coir. Find u some canna coco blocks. Best and easiest to work with. Requires more waterings but any kind of issues r super easily fixed. No overwatering unless ur in a plastic pot without drain holes lol. Coco for the win

Welcome to the community:love_you_gesture:. Great choices from all the great cultivators above. I would only suggest for a 1st grow that you keep it simple and rookie friendly. Fox Farm coco loco or another amended coco would be my suggestion. You won’t have to amend the raw coco yourself, it’s loaded with essential nutrients so you can water only for around 4-6 weeks. It will also remove the overwatering error and nutrient overload/under feeding. With coco you water to run off daily. This user friendly medium will give you the opportunity to observe the growth while you learn about the nutrient lines, how much and when needed :love_you_gesture:

Thank you! Glad to soak up some knowledge

I use Promix and then buy liquid nutrients from house and garden. (They have an app that calculates feeding) my grows have turned out top shelf product. Good luck with your new hobby, hope you have alot of fun growing

Hi … I am trying organic living soil for the next run. While i can not vouch for the effectiveness of this recipe, its what i have cooking at the moment.
For a 5 gallon pot:
2.25 gallon Pro-Mix HP w/Mycorrizae
.50 gallon Perlite
1.5 gallon Happy Frog
.75 gallon Worm Castings
8TBSP Gaia Green 4-4-4
1 TBSP Myco Bliss Mycorrizae

will top dress with Gaia Green Power Bloom at the Preflower stage.

This is the recipe from a guy that grew 80 photoperiod plants in a greenhouise (legal grow)

He did not use Gaia Green but rather sprayed nutrient rich water on plants on a timer i understand.

It was his suggestion to use 8TBSP Gaia Green and i added the Myco Bliss Mycorrizae.

any thoughts or comments on this recipe would be greatly appreciated.
