i’ve had great success with rapid rooters for seed and clones
i use sunshine#4 promix coco in a dtw method of growing
for a beginner this is good to use…jmo though
experiment have fun
reading of others trials and woes helps me also.
welcome to ilgm, find a place and stay awhile…lol
I used the miracle grow seed starter you can find at Walmart home depot wherever. Solo cups with air holes for a few weeks. Then into 5 gallon fabric pots with a non mix organic garden bed raiser. Fox farm liquid trio. Love the results.
I love rapid rooters, for seeds . Then fox farm light. Warrior or cocoloco . Home made bubble cloner for clones of course. Just water no rooting agents at all. 100% success rate.
germinate seeds in cup of water ph6.8 for 14-24 hours, put seeds in rappid rooters under dome on plate with heat pad under well lit room with 1/2-1" water on plate, 3-5 days later or when roots show put in fox farm ocean forest, i add bone meal and blood meal for veg an bloom just to kick the dirt up a knotch GH grow for veg then when i switch to 12/12 i use bud blood for 1 week, tiger bloom or beastie blooms for the rest of flower, ph everything at 6.5 flush with flora kleen. Hasnt failed me yet!
Seeds straight into the plugs with a soaking of water- I then leave it in a warm dark place for about 24 hours. And then I put it under lights. Just keeping the plug damp but not soaked.
Straight up dirt from garden into solo cup, soil has dirt, horse leftovers(lol),pot ash etc…works for me every time so far, after a Couple weeks(ish) into large pot With FFOF.
@BrockSamson, I use this from seedling / sprouting until harvest, with great success and result… A nutrients feeding is needed from early vegetative stage (4-5 nodes) until the end of flowering stage. No playing with different medium is the main reason why I prefer using this great soil…
You can either start your seeds with solo cup and transplant when ready, or, direct in their forever home pots with the help of clear solo cup dome, after, of course, have soaking them until tap rooted, either way

What is the difference between Ocean Forest Potting Soil and Happy Frog Potting Soil?
Both Ocean Forest and Happy Frog Potting Soils are packed with earthworm castings, bat guano, peat moss and aged forest products, and provide an ideal environment for container gardens. There are a few distinct differences between these two products. Ocean Forest is a premium mix that contains ocean-going ingredients such as kelp, crab meal and shrimp meal. Happy Frog Potting Soil is an economical alternative that includes humic acid and beneficial microbes.
drain to waste system…DTW
is where you water until you get fluid coming out of the bottom of the pot
then you know the ppm/ph going in and you can check it coming out as well
kinda helps you not to over feed, and is good to know ph of root zone
always try to get your pots dry quickly after watering…this spurs your plant along during growth/flower
hope this helps @BrockSamson
@BrockSamson I never use rapid rooters and peat plugs, so, I cannot give you objective review on them.
However, I have some with rockwool to germinate fruits and vegetables seeds. I am not impress with % of germination and, personnaly, will not try it with seeds that each one are costly… imo
I have 100% germination success with soaking until tap rooted and direct planting in the Fafard soil, in their forever pots with clear solo cups dome for about the first week.
