It only took me 3 years to discover an effective combination to help my body rest and heal. I have a form of tremors, jerks, tugs, involuntary movements that can present at any time. Very counterproductive to sleep, career, and personal relationships.
At first my search was focused on finding the best strains/terpenes for my body. After that I finally found the most effective mix for me dovetailing with my pharmacy meds of course adding 2.5 CBD/ 1.0THC/ .1-.2 CBG. For Example I make sleep gummies that are each 60 mg Full Spectrum CBD/ 25mg THC/ 3mg CBG and throw a squeezer of CBD tincture on my tongue for good measure. Currently two of those bring on sweet dreams vs all night rodeo.
After rough nights having little restful sleep I come out of the gate vaping a green crack/CBD strain adding CBG Kief or small flower chunk of CBG “the mother” to the bowl. By afternoon and evening I switch out to an indica still keeping the ratio but do add a straight THC vape to the mix approaching crash time to calm my body for sleep.
Prior to adding CBD+G I kept needlessly killing brain cells to achieve the sensation of filling every receptor. Now I achieve that same sensation yet keep more brain function on line needing less THC. “Fat, dumb, and stupid is no way to go through life son.” ANIMAL HOUSE…. Great medicines we have here especially if we use wisely.
What ratio or mix have you found that works best for you? I look forward to learning from you!
Almost two years ago, I was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s decease. I suffer from anxiety, insomnia, muscle fasciculations, nerve pain, muscle pain, and spasticity. In addition to these conditions, I have become severely allergic to some medications l’ve taken my whole adult life to the tune of several nights in the hospital.
So that pretty much leaves weed to cope with the symptoms of ALS. I found that Power Plant works great for all but insomnia. I smoke PP first every day, it works that well. For insomnia, and pain I like Critical Mass, LSD, Purple Punch, DO-SI-DOS, and Skittlez. The harsh reality of this decease is you can’t smoke your way out of it. I can smoke upto three times per day, then efficacy drops to zero. Made that mistake once early on and I paid dearly that afternoon and evening. I now never smoke until after 5.
Brother @Harold you have a full plate of challenges to meet each day. I commend you for all the work done so far.
When I reflect on my mini-victories handling my symptoms I place a solid meditation practice above all else to place a floor beneath me. I think it was Emmy Lou Harris who sang about “One thing they dont tell you about the blues when you got’ ‘em you keep on falling cause there ain’t no bottom, there ain’t no end.” Well meditation put a solid floor under me and keeps my mind clear of the unnecessary.
Adding CBD and CBG spread a broad base or foundation under me in a different way. THC would wear off rapidly and I was back to the trough quite often. Adding the other things made the THC more effective and calming in a way lasting longer and I found other strains almost as effective as my favorites using less overall as a bonus.
CBG is alerting to me in more than a small dose. CBD seems to be good for me anytime but works better when paired with THC. I found THCV alerting yet I never found a sweet spot that didn”t feel like too much coffee jitters. I hope you have the chance to try for your self someday and benefit.
I haven’t tried meditation yet, but my friends swear by it. Yoga works for me.
I recently heard in my ALS forum, of anecdotal evidence that CBN may suppress compounds in the spinal canal that damage the motor neurons. l’m going to decarb some weed to maximize CBN and see if it helps.
I am assuming that will take a period of time to get relief from the CBN so please do follow up and let me know your progress. Glad you found/keep yoga which also gives great returns for the effort.
Using for chronic spinal pain and am still trying to find a ratio after 2 years. I think part of the problem is that the flower isnt exactly the same in thc/terps/cannabinoids in every grow.
I am currently using a tincture combo labled 1:1:1 thc/cbc/cbd from a dispensary.
I did a little research and found that CBC interacts with the TRPA1 receptor - from the webs - “TRPA1 plays a crucial role in the sensation of pain and inflammation”
CBD interacts with TRPV1 receptor-
from the webs “CBD, a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, has been shown to interact with TRPV1. It can inhibit or desensitize TRPV1 at low doses, potentially contributing to its pain-relieving effects. Higher doses of CBD may also activate TRPV1”
So, for the last 2 months I’ve been using a tincture product that helps, but It seems my body builds up a tolerance quickly to the CBC/CBD. The THC content kicks my butt if it has any more than 5mg per dose. Lightweight now but use to be a daily smoker with no problems. Must be old age.
If growing plants for myself, Im not quite sure how to control or measure what Im getting as far as cannabinoids other than trial and error.
I would think that the dispensary tinctures have more precise measuring and mixing these things, but would eventually like to make this myself.
Thank you. Yes, theres information overload out here!
I havent had time to get into the extraction yet, but I’ve been obsorbing information. Took 2 years to narrow down what helps so Ill get there at some point, because Im not continuing to toss $$$$ to dispensaries. I consider it like a tuition/learning fee.
RSO is also good for me as well, but CBD, CBC, CBG etc needs to be added.
By the way, welcome @SkunkyKush to the forum. I did some poking around on the National Institute of Health and found lots of information on terpenes, and there interactions with other compounds. I will post it later today when I get home.
@SkunkyKush after trying various methods of extraction, I have settled on using a vacuum still after a QWET extraction. I soak the buds for 15 - 20 minutes and use a Buckner flask/filter before putting the QWET into my Torr Kitchen vacuum still.
I get a very clean extraction. I use about 20 mg of the wax per dose. The wax can be used directly or in edibles after dissolving in coconut or other suitable oil.
Seeing the capacity on the Torr version makes me want one. I love my Source Turbo but to be able to process 4 times as much in a quarter of the time is appealing. I do an oz of trim in about 12 oz of alcohol. To reduce to wax takes 4 hours. That gets me around 4 grams of clean FECO using low quality trim.
I process from 1.8 L to 5 L of QWET, each liter of QWET is from 1/2 ounce of top shelf buds. Each liter of QWET yields around 5 or 6 grams of clean wax. The smallest run I have done was just a bit over 1 L of wash.
These numbers are just estimates as I don’t really measure when I do this. I freeze/cool both the buds (I fill a 1 qt mason jar with gently broken up flower) and ethanal, then the ethanal wash, then filter and process in the still.
Okay, that is a sweet setup you have there! I would be all over this pre-ALS. I used to make oatmeal raisin cookies from my homemade canna coconut oil from Chocolope. One cookie, and I could do yardwork all day. I loved that weed.
What I noticed after the ALS diagnosis, I have severe reactions to many common medications. I haven’t had a gummy, cookie in over a year worried about adverse reactions. I can no longer tolerate weed with the terpene Terpinolene, or Carene. So goodbye Chocolope and LA confidential. Terpinolene will bring on anxiety and Carene dries my eyes out really bad.
I dry herb vape 3 times per day max, then no relief. My symptoms are the worst in late afternoon and at night, so I choose my three dose times wisely using just enough to relieve my symptom(s).
Last week in my ALS forum, someone said that CBN can help delay the progression of ALS. I Have my doubts, but at this point I will try anything. Can you help me with maximizing CBN in my weed? Any strains that come to mind?
