What is the Perfect Wattage for a Grow Light

@Jaysittinback Well Sir, that’s about what I’m gonna have once I get it all ordered. I am kinda hoping for a 5x2 though. So it’s George’s Lighting? Well that clears some up. Thanks. Idt I can afford that. Lol! But really the Mars Hydro looks pretty good. Plus it’s on sale for 100 bucks. Believe it or not, I git that tent and every single thing I needed to start growing, including a mix pack of seeds from here, and I do mean everything, just over a year ago for under $700. Idk what’s happened with prices since then, but unless you buy off temu or somewhere like that you’ll pay out the nose. It’s crazy how much stuff has went up in just a year. And nobody honors previous customer’s. Here does though. I have 2 $10 coupons in there now. I wonder if I can use both on 1 purchase. Lol! Thanks for chiming in. You made me go to sleep with a smile.

If you want a 2x4 and you’re only using it for vegging. The vs2000 will work for that. Idc what numbers say. I personally use this light for my last 3 or 4 grows. It will work for what you need so be aware the VIVOSUN 2x4 will work.

I recently bought a 5x5 and now use my 2x4 for only vegging.

Yeas agreed, as strongly as somebody who never owned one can anyway. After seeing Dave’s (DDD) report of his Viper vs his HLG well damn, that’s huge wow. And as always he has some excellent observations.
Those 3 or 4 decent companies I see all over the forum and nice plants to match. But you seen the same.
Ok I was trying to be funnny, the accumulation of a day of joints, it finally happened.
So I’m using a 4x4 tent and also a closet/nursery thingy. The closet setup simply caulking white paint adjustable shelf and cheap lights. Dont rep my style man!. No just jokin

You can go on market place and find a lot of supplies cheap like tents. Not sure why I guess they were growing something besides bud and decided to stop. You can check out the stuff before you purchase. Either way you will get some good deals. Good luck but I’d still go bigger on the tent than 2x4 if you have space for it. Tents that small fill up quick. Later

Horticulture Lighting Group.

When you shop for a tent make sure you don’t get a short one (like 5’). 6’ would be better for vertical adjustment of lights.

Name changed. Normally we will only do that once.

A 2 X 4’ tent is 8 square feet. You want (depending on the quality of the light) between 30 and 50 watts per square foot for proper flowering. So at the low end, 240 watts and at the high end, 400 watts. HLG lights would fall at the lower end.

I would also recommend multiple fixtures to get to where you need to be as you can use just one light for a large part of your grow. Once in flower and plants are at the correct size, you can then spread them out and energize your other light. A dimmer function is nice too for similar reasons. Also; a light (with dimmer) that is run at only around 75% of peak output is more efficient and produces less heat.

Yes; I built the lights with help from DBRN. They are Gen 1 Samsung EB strips mounted to 1 1/2 X 6" aluminum tubing cut to size as a heatsink. Meanwell drivers provide a peak output of 240 watts. I typically run them between 200 and 220 watts peak. I like these fixtures because they are more spread out for uniform light distribution without a hot spot in the middle. The footprint on each light is 23 X 30" times four. 3,000 K is what you need for overall grow.

Horticulture Lighting Group. I will find a link on amazon for a visual aid since Amazon links are legal.
https://www.amazon.com/hlg-grow-lights/s?k=hlg+grow+lights

you can buy direct and there is usually a discount code and I think if you are Active or Ex military they have discounts for that too. Good luck.

Well, here’s to hoping I address everyone. My popularity is flattering. Lol!

Sad Day, Lou Gossett passed away. May he Rest in Peace. An amazing man for sure.

So… @DarhkGrows Thanks for that info. I currently have the VS 4000 in my 6x5 and would like to stay with them or at least with the Samsung-I think they are called Diodes, but that light is 300 bucks. Idk that I’ll be able to get it.

@Jaysittinback I think I get what you’re saying, and if so I agree. It’s all about what is popular this week. I think a lot of the time somebody will get something new and be like oh how great it is and try to convince all others, when if you pay attention you probably will see them buying a new whatever a 6 months later cause it wasn’t so great after all. Heck, we all do it, I think.

@John7 I didn’t know my trust level was high enough to bother even looking, but I was told it is so ima be looking in there later today. Thanks.

@Myfriendis410 Ah! Gotcha.
Thanks for the name change. Lol! I had to go look. It suits me and is better than Agent Green.
That’s amazing you built your own. May be off topic but I saw where ViVoSun is selling a solar panel now. Seemed reasonably priced but I never looked into them before. Something for me to think about. Back on topic… So you know about electricity huh? I just happen to do reviews for Kichler Lighting and have replaced or installed numerous fixtures-even fell through my Kitchen ceiling once-did one yesterday and it’s on in the off position and snaps the breaker when I turn the switch to on or if it’s in on when I flip the breaker. Any thoughts? Just kidding. I think it must be the ground. I’m about to go out and redo it. Nice light though. Glad my house didn’t burn down overnight cause I left it on. Oh the dramas of my days.

What do you think about mirrors? Or just regular lamps with the adjustable arms and grow light bulbs? If I could find room.

@Bonjoyle That’s for the link Dude. How did you get it to show up without the picture of the product?

Thanks everyone. I’ma watch GH now and then fix my light. I’ll check back later and maybe find time to read some other threads too. -K

Hey I kinda meant something else… the high quality diodes are available from a few different builders.
I just learned here clones aren’t seedlings, well you know what I mean. For light.
I never even seen an HLG… friends have lesser lights… All this stuff on forum I never even seen except Mars lights and Vivosun accessories.
Which is a shame cuz I got ILGM Wedding Cake :muscle: in :canada: underground :shit:
But dont wanna limp them around for 4 months.

So @Myfriendis410 @Storm @Skydiver

What about this HLG260 REPEC FR PRE assembled kit. Is that even a light?

Oh. I see. It’s not a full spectrum light, is it? FR is far red I bet?

Those are full spectrum. Would be a GREAT light. Top end.

It is full spectrum it however is not recommended for veg so if you want it for flower only it’s good. This recommendation comes from hlg.

Good catch. Missed that.

Too late anyway. I ordered one, for better or for worse. Nothing special but the review are good. It’s a Varsomething 300W elCheapo. We shall see. My ex got an attitude so I am doing it myself.

@ShureGreen. After typing this up I saw your last post. I would go get that FastBuds deal though. Huge savings!

That HLG 260 Rspec FR would be great for a 2x4 and their service is truly worth the extra $$. And at $250 is a very reasonable price for the quality. The AC Infinity CLOUDLAB 642 Advance Grow Tent, 48”x24”x72” for $129 and the AC Infinity Air Filtration PRO Kit 4”, CLOUDLINE Inline Fan with Controller 69, Carbon Filter Ducting Combo at $189. So $568 plus tax/shipping and you have a set up for years.

Dirt, Pots, seeds, nutes, those are the ongoing extras. For the next day or so Fastbuds has $25 for 5 random seeds and you get an extra 5. There are 10 plants with a quick turn. grow 2 at a time and every 2.5-3 months you have buds.

If The Missus would let me that would be my second tent set up.

Thanks Dude. I do appreciate your taking the time. Hopefully this one will be ok. The reviews were good, so there’s that. And one guy that does reviews is just too funny in the way he doesn’t seem to mind talking things down if he doesn’t like something, so I guess I kinda connected with him and that helped me to make my decision. Lol!
