What height to switch to flowering stage?

First indoor grow without a grow tent.

So the ceiling is 8’ 2", and the 1000 watt HPS light has to be about 2’ above the top of any plant for heat purposes.

I’ve read several times that sativas can double their height after switching to the flowering stage, but after several grows I’ve never seen more than what I’m guessing is 15%-20% or so further growth?

Anyone know how much extra height a Strawberry Cough 100% sativa would have after switching to flowering light schedule? I’m thinking I could probably switch to flowering stage at around 4’ to 4.5’ in height???

What are growing autos or photoperiod plants and pics will help

Then I’m with you. Live and learn so to speak…

I’ve had 80-100% sativas that actually do double in height with flowering (Blue Dream and Haze strains).

Every plant is different and sometimes fickle. I use to do the math on tent and light height assuming they would double. Some did some did not. Now if one branch is trying to be the teacher’s pet, I change the behavior with a paper clip and yarn. It’s what I do until I learn enough from the masters of plant manipulation.

If it were me. I would raise light as high as it could go, then measure from bottom of reflector to the floor. Minus the 2 ft and divide by 2. Maximum plant height.
