Looking for advice… this is my second grow and it is already much diff than my first. I’ve done everything the “correct” way this time around from the beginning.
My two plants have gotten so tall that the heavy buds that sit atop, are making them lean over so I’ve had to stake them in place. Was this due to poor topping or is this just normal with a strain like kosher kush?
For reference: I am at week 12, have been flowering for about 6/7 weeks. The nuggs feel very dense but appears they still have some time looking at the pistols. I use fox farms nutes and coast of maine organic soil.
Fox Farm nutes are very salty and the plant appears top be experiencing nitrogen toxicity. Are you managing runoff pH and PPM?
Poor lighting. The distance between the plant’s nodes indicates that the plant hasn’t been getting enough light. Good lighting will produce a more compact plant with dense flowers. A plant with inadequate light will stretch taller seeking more light.
Suggest leaving more leaves on with your next grow. The leaves use sun, CO2, and nutrients to produce the sugars the plant needs to grow healthy buds.
This makes sense to me… for the first 8 weeks or so I had a smaller light in a smaller tent, then these got too big and I had to upgrade the tent and light. I believe there should be sufficient lighting now, I hope!
As for leaving more fan leaves on, I guess I need to find a happy medium… my last grow I had too many and others explained that I should clean the plant up a bit to allow better airflow & light to get to the parts of the plant that needed it most. Perhaps I over did the trim this round?
I grow dense plants (due to very intense lighting - PPFD at 1,100) and have 2 fans running across the canopy. I trim very little - only enough to prevent problems with mold. More leaf surface = more sugars for the plant and therefore greater growth.
Good lighting is the single most important factor for a productive grow.
