What factors influence the buds density. When I compare my buds to store-bought buds they are never as dense. What am I doing wrong?
The pot is good, but the buds are loose.

Mainly light, but all environmental factors contribute.

In this order of importance
#1 Genetics
#2 Light (needs to be quality and enough)
#3 everything else, soils, food, temps,
In general Autoflowers don’t produce dense buds. I say in General because there are always exceptions especially with good experienced growers.

I think most for your question is we air dry. The buds here are freeze dried from dispensary’s. So we will never get a bud to look just like theirs. Here is what I have learned for my area here. If I dry to 62% I gt good buds. if I dry to 58% The buds are much more dense.
Indica’s tend to produce denser buds than sativas from what I have read and seen. If you want buds that are like rocks. Try growing the Money Bush from Heavy weight seeds. It is a photo.That is my night time favorite too. A super relaxing high and will have me ready to call it a night after a few hours 
There are a lot of autos with nice dense buds. Most seem that way. Every now and then. You get a bean that just grows fluffy stuff. I grew twin 6 shooters. From the same seed. One had super dense buds. The other was lighter. The good is it all smokes the same Or I think

Agree with your analysis on dispo bud density. Be assured @GedLee dense or not dense has no effect on quality or potency, mostly just bag appeal

@Docnraq This was my twin here. I separated it into 2 plants. One grew out with normal leaves and the other had a lot of camel toes.
