Water filtration options

I looked into R.O and got turned off for many reasons. i was wondering about other simpler options, I got my water tested and its sodium and chloride that make up about 220 ppm, +89 alkalinity. My pen reads 320ppm for my tap water. Since that is the bulk of what i need removed ,and i dont need 0 PPM, can I use something simpler , for example Small boy

any insight would be appreciated.

I personally use the RO buddy. Its $70 or so shipped and will probably work better than the one you have linked as they have 3-4 filters. Takes me about 2 hrs to fill up 5 gal jug and i run a y juction from my washer hookup

For most tap water all you need is a carbon filter. Other than that you might have to ph your water and/or nute solution

Agree. Countertop filters just attach to the faucet and can be removed if not needed.

Hello @THCMaker44 all you need is one of these
The options above from other members will work I’m not saying that but this is much easier just connect to a garden hose so you can reach your plants then roll it back up.
Good luck with whatever you decide

I saw someone here who uses that. He said it works great.
Like all carbon filters, the slower the water flow the better it works.

All great info, Ty its good to know I have some more options. R.O seemed too much maintenance, and overkill since my main issues which are sodium and chloride, everything else tested in range. So from what i understand a carbon filter will do the job, ( lower sodium and chloride) I actually have one in my fridge but it does nothing to lower PPM. Any in home recommendations?

I also have been collecting rain to mix in.

Well personally for drinking 000ppm water (the brand the Chad Britta) is good but idk how good it’ll be at filtering for the plants

RO is not that much maintenance. Just replacing a filter once a year or so.

Curious if you have replaced this in the last 6 months?
I don’t know much about filters for tap water but I do know watch, most say reduce chlorine not remove. I don’t worry about our chlorine to much, it’s pretty damn low and I get away with water straight from tap alot.

Your teeth gonna fall out :joy::rofl::joy: hope not, read somewhere around here ro water and humans don’t mesh well :green_heart::metal::cowboy_hat_face:

@THCMaker44 I use the ZERO water filter and have been using it for 3 years now…in my area I only get about 13-15 gal thru it before it is not filtering anymore…RO water still has something in it as most are 30-50ppm of something…since I am doing hydro I want my nutrient mix to be as pure as it can be … and I really believe the purer the water the smoother the smoke

Na zero water isn’t ro it’s just a water filter with lead filtration it does reduces the chlorine and fluoride but more than likely I’ll be fine.

LEAD, Madhatter comes to mind.
I’ma have to look into that this eve. Learn something new everyday :+1:

@Sammys My RO Buddie was very easy to install and use. I love it.

I screwed it to a board… Propped it up on my basement tub/sink connect it to a picket like a garden hose faucet.

I have the 4 Stage… Customer service instructed me to remove the 4th DI stage for RO water and include it for distilled water.

I use the RO for plants and distilled for humidifiers.

There is a 3 gallon waste per 1 gallon treated water… We use the waste water for regular house plants and gardening when possible.

@Carsy All you have to do is measure the lengths of tube you need… Cut it with supplied razor blade but saw through with light pressure as to not squeeze it into an oval.

Then measure and 5/8" (0.6250") from each end and mark it.

The directions show how to correctly install the tubes, and they provide all necessary tools(except a screwdriver).

They explain that the first filters must be flushed prior to installing membrane. Once membrane is installed flush for 30 minutes to rinse the protective coating away.

Like this… It’s RO water that comes out the water side…for plants.

If you add the 4th filter, no need to flush apparently, you get distilled quality water. For humidifier(s).

To make RO again… Just bypass the 4th stage temporarily… And on.

I’ve been drinking and cooking with it for years. It’s a few minerals that you miss out on. I eat a lot of nuts to make up for the minerals I am missing.

Good to know buddy.
I won’t go there but good to know we will have ya around longer :green_heart::metal:

Navy has been using it for years and we haven’t seen any lawyers on TV asking questions about it, so I assume it’s ok.
Broscience I read around here just stuck in my head.

Like others, I have a filter that attaches to a garden hose. The one I use has a 5 micron filter. Other similar filters are larger 20 microns. Just got it a week ago.

Still early on, but it brought my city tap water down from 190ppm to 30ppm.
