So I can’t find any information on using colloidal silver to get feminize seeds. The very few articles/videos I found are not helpful as far as what I need for PPM. I picked up some from my local supplement store only 10 ppm. Will this be enough if I start from Week one veg or will I need a higher ppm?
I’ve used 50 PPM. I don’t believe 10 is high enough.
Colloidal silver should not be used during veg. It is applied (sprayed onto) a flowering branch on a female plant. It will force the branch to produce male flowers. The pollen is then harvested from those male flowers and then applied to female flowers on a different plant for feminized seed.
Oh so I wouldn’t get feminized seeds from the plant I sprayed?
No. The purpose of colloidal silver is to force a female to produce male flowers from which male pollen can be harvested. That male pollen is then applied to a different female plant which will yield feminized seed.
I appreciate it The only information I’ve been able to find Didn’t even mention that part so I would’ve been wasting my time and money. I appreciate the info. Thank you.
And I actually thought there was a bit of self pollination going on to. I’m dying to learn how to make Fems.
I would recommend STS, I’ve had a higher success rate. Only need to treat once a week, once before flipping the light schedule, and once weekly for 2-3 weeks. My last pollinations were evident after 2 treatments
I have tried silver before, but never followed through with harvesting the male pollen and pollinating a fem. I mentioned a year or so ago about crossing strains that yielded a strain that I liked but can’t find anywhere else. I’ll have to dig up that thread and give it a go. I have travel planned in May and can grow after that. It’s been more than a year since I’ve grown, maybe even 2 years.
It is harder to get colloidal silver into the plant. It is just small particles of silver in a suspended solution. Small to us is rather big to a cell.
The sodium thiosulfate takes elemental silver (so much smaller) and binds to it hard so it does not mix with other ions. Since it’s an elemental silver molecule bonded to a thiosulfate it is smaller silver particle than colloidal silver. It can enter the plant easier.
Ironically, Elemental silver binds easily to other ployatomic molecules and can get used up. Think of the thiosulfate as a hall monitor keeping it from playing with other molecules and getting off task…
Thiosulfate likes to bind to cations hard with a double bond. It’s historically been used for photography fixer for old photo paper prints to stop developing the image. It’s also one of the most common dechlorinators in fish tap water conditioner.
I’ll usually take a Few cuttings from a keeper grown from regular seed and treat one and throw the other one in beside the treated one when it’s ready. I’ll collect the pollen as well but have better success with direct plant to plant pollination
10 ppm will not do it, minimum 30, better 50, I used 80 but I have a generator to make it any strength. @OGIncognito is 100 on STS, it’s much better, easier on the plant, only have to spray at 5 day intervals whereas CS is sprayed every day. I just got mine today.
Where do you get such a thing? How long or how many plants can you treat with that ? I screenshotted that one lol.
Got both on Amazon, that’s enough silver nitrate to make 20 batches of one quart each. It would take forever to use that in a home grow.
Ty. So many X’s I’ve wanted to jump into this and didn’t. Be neat to take 2 of the NL-BX’s and get some Fems outta them. Especially great if they’re POTENT!!
No reason not to try, only way you’ll ever get it is to try!
Some of the crosses I’m doing now , both parents are 33% or higher! That’s the breeders prediction, we shall see. I still think it’s gonna make some straight fire.
That’s the same silver nitrate I have
Probably gonna spray BlackBerry Moonrocks this weekend and flip the next. That close to your timing? CS takes a few weeks of spraying to get them going. I want to time the spraying and flip right so pollen drops around third week after flip. I think. lol
Just curious, is there a reason it couldn’t pollinate itself from the male pollen or does it have to be another plant? Would it work okay with clones?
I read somewhere that you can spray a branch and let it pollinate itself to get feminized seeds is why I ask.
You can isolate and spray one branch and it will pollinate the other branches. If you collect and store pollen, you can bag one or two branches and pollinate just those. I wouldn’t smoke one that had STS sprayed on any branches as it absorbs into the tissue and could be dangerous if smoked. Pollen taken from a sprayed plant is ok, the silver doesn’t get in the pollen.
