I have grown plenty of weed outdoors. Too many crumb snatchers around now a days. Getting tired of loosing over half my crop. Gonna give this indoor thing a whirl. I have dabbled in it in the past but, it seems to have come a long ways since then. The days of fluorescent bulbs and incandescent bulbs, in a closet have gone. This is my first attempt, with a grow tent. I have always been a pretty successful guerilla grower in years gone by. My friends that know me well used to Call me Gary reefer seed. I too am trying to not spend a lot of $$$$ up front until I see how this works. Do you think this will work? I am going to try a test run first, before trying Robert’s finest. Gonna try some auto-flower and see how it goes. From what I have been able to research, this seems to be the best choice. My intent is to use 10 gallon cloth pots. 4 or 6 pots for the size room I have and the lighting? I am not used to being able to ask anyone about my techniques and I am still a little sketchy about doing so but, I have been reading and paying attention to this forum for a while now and will let my guard down and hope for the best. I am a firm believer in loose lips sink ships and have followed this most of my life, that is probably what has kept me trouble free. That being said, I would like the thoughts/suggestions of anyone here. There seems to be a lot of knowledge here. Thanks.
Everything I keep hearing , 10 gal might be overkill for autos, waste of dirt and water, and space. Just a thought
Yeah, that’s kinda what I am hearing also. I just happen to have the 10 gallon is all. That’s why I was going to use them. What size would you suggest and how many plants for a 5x5?
My last grow inside I did 6 autos in 5 gal pots in a 4x5 space without any training and they got big. Over running my light foot print.
4 would have been better suited.
Not saying it can’t be done with 6 but better spacing with 4 and not so crowded.

I was down to 4-6 from what I was able to learn through my research. I have had some people give me a much higher number but, I don’t think it is feasible. Maybe I should order some 5 or 7 gallon pots. I was leaning more towards 4 10 gallon in the 5x5. Just wanted to get everyone’s opinion. Like I mentioned earlier, this will be my first indoor grow. I have much more experience outdoors.
I agree with pots, like 3-5 gallon is more than enough for indoor autos. Is the light you’re looking to use available on Amazon? Its probably not big enough to flower a 5x5 well.
You don’t think that 2- 3,000 watt and 1- 4,000 watt LED are enough?

Don’t fall for the marketing. It’s a 130w light. Good for about 2.5 sq. feet of flowering. You would need a minimum of one of these lights for each plant. Or, if you follow the blurple rule of thumb which is 50w per sq ft, you’d need 10 of them to fully flower a 5’x5’ foot tent.
Most people underestimate the importance of proper lighting when they begin growing indoors.
Like @Drinkslinger said: wall wattage in this type of light is the operative and not what they TELL you it is. You need 1,200 watts drawn from the wall with that type of light. Going to something more efficient can halve that amount (I run 700 in 24 square feet and grow dank).
You can grow weed with those lights but your money would be better spent on more efficient lighting. @dbrn32 is your man for that.
I am going to go out on a limb and say that starting with autoflowering strains is NOT the best way to start out. I would recommend feminized photoperiod for your first indoor as you have much more control over overall height and length of grow compared to autos. You could do 3 plants in that space and pull 3 pounds of premium flower as well.
I agree with the others, the total amount of light output from these lights just isn’t that much.
What type of light would you suggest that I add to the lights I have already purchased? I know from everything I have read and seen enough light is one of the most important items. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What kind of results are you looking to get out of your 5x5? The really good led fixtures designed for that space can be $1500+. Even the middle of the road led lights start at $700 or so. The lights you have dont even really compare, you would need like 10 of them to get near capacity in a 5x5.
I am not tied to the LED. Would a 1000 watt hps/metal halide be sufficient? I can always send the others back, or keep 1 or 2 and add with the hps/metal halide. I understand how important the proper lighting is and just want to make sure I have a sufficient amount.
Ya, a good 1000 watt with large reflector would be better than what you have. I would definitely go air cooled if that’s what you do.
I just want to make sure that my set-up is sufficient. That way any failures wont be due to poor set up. I am going to be using a 60x60x80 tent with a 8" carbon filter. This first run is just going to be sure I have got set-up sufficient. I have some of the gold-leaf fem seeds coming and want to do an auto-flower run first to work out the bugs. Should I have 10 gallon cloth pots, should I be using 5? How many plants do you think?
That is my intent is to get air-co0led and hook it in-line with my filter. I will order 2-1,00 wats if you think that is what I need. Like I said I can always send the others back.

I use 5 gallon buckets I bought from Walmart. I poked holes in the bottom of the bucket. Growing indoors you eliminate a lot of problems that outdoor growers have to deal with.
I have no insects. No thieves. No animals eating my plants. Less stress.
All you need to make sure of is having a good grow light system like HLG.
