So coming closer to my first harvest pondering the difference and reason behind dry vs wet trim and which method would be best for me options? After all your hard work how y’all prepare your bugs to dry?
I wet trim personally as Ifind it easier to separate and get in with my scissors. I struggle dry trimming, always have done

Good question ! I will say this I left more Leafs on this time than usual mid summer hotter than hell cannot get temperature down as low, as other times of the year for drying. By leaving more Leafs I still got a slow 8 day drying. Winter time and summer time trimming an Drying for me will vary a little bit. Good luck

Dry in a trimbag. Hang in basket 8-10 days to dry then shake shake shake

It’s all personal preference there are pros and cons for either. I like to wet trim because I can bend the stems some cut closer to the inside of the buds. I also dry trim when she’s all dried and after she cures. I’ll surface trim the longer sugar leafs off of the buds unless they’re covered in trichomes then I’ll leave them on and smoke em. Surface trimming as I call it after cure would be strictly for appearances. People like buying nice looking buds not that I sell or saying you will but you get my drift.

I agree with @Davyg I feel I can control the bud shape and trimming better on a wet trim. Then I let is dry and can do any final trimming thats needed after they dry. Everyone has their own style/techniques to it.

depends on what you intend to do with the trim? And what level of trimming you care to do? Just sun leaves? Thats easy… if you are goona screen it or make hash out of it you dont even need to trim it. Just hang it and dry it out over 8 to 10 days ideally.

Thanks gang I intend to use every inch but I am keeping my buds as buds I will be processing everything else that comes off of it but not processing any buds themselves. @Psu8286 that really answers my question mostly dry trim has that manicured top shelf appeal. Frankly sounds like I’m going to be doing both come back after dried get any small parts I miss. I have one plant that the sugar leafs are exceptionally frosty so I know I will back off some on that strain bit the rest are all just patches of trichromes near the base nothing over the top on the leafs especially my pre 98 bubba very leafy but great looking colas but it needs to be trimmed very fine or it changes the whole appearance

I wet trim. I hate dry trimming as the sugar leaves seem to curl inward to the buds and makes it a bugger to get the snips under them. IMHO.
It also seems to make less of a mess, the buds and hairs don’t crumble up from handling as easy when moist.

I do what is known as a moist trim. Kind of in-between the two.
You trim off the major fan leaves - the obvious ones that are sticking out, and a few pieces of fan leaf sections, when the lower portion is buried in bud. Then, leave the rest in place while it is drying. This takes care of the major bits but still makes for a relatively slow drying process.

@Vosnok with each grow you’ll learn things. Start your next grow with a notebook and write down everything you do so you can look back and see how you fixed a problem, did something wrong, and tweak your knowledge. Growing is a relaxing wonderful thing and we get paid back in the end.

I am looking forward to my second harvest in a few weeks. My plant is for personal consumption, not sale. On my previous grow, I really did no trimming (even fan leaves) prior to drying. When I started trimming / curing we got lazy after the first jar. The smoke has been a little harsh because I left too many leaves in the buds. My edibles from that grow have been great (ILGM Northern Nights Auto with some awesome sugar leaves).
With the new harvest, I am thinking more aggressive trimming wet. So what is the best way to get value out of the trim? My guess is do it all over wax paper then throw that into the freezer for cannabutter. What other approaches work?

I take all of my wet trimmings and let them dry out in a paper bag. I then store them in zip lock bags until I decarb them and make what ever I plan to use them for.

Sugar leaf makes great bubble hash and hash oil.I also make bath bombs,tinctures,lotions and pain balm,etc.

Mix my trimmings with shake and trim to blast oil
