Trimming everything below topping point

My mentor, now gone,r.i.p. always trimmed everything below where he topped it. I’ve never really done that, but, I have 8 Green Crack @ 25 days old that I topped 4 days ago. They are really healthy and the growth after topping has been phenomenal. I just fed them so I’ll wait a few days and try trimming everything below the topping point. What is your opinion on this method? :thinking: I’m a little nervous.

Taking off too much can harm yields. A good practice is to defoliate only as necessary to maintain good airflow within the plant’s canopy. I wouldn’t suggest taking off more than the bottom 1/3 of a plant.

Pics of the plant would enable us to give more specific recommendations.

Plant is far too young think about trimming it. The plant needs those leaves to manufacture the sugars the plant needs to grow well.

Looking good, I wouldn’t remove any growth and you’ve already removed the lower growth I would have recommended :love_you_gesture:

Cant improve on advice given. I also do not defoliate much at all till stretch unless I have to. Especially auto since on a timer and can overdo it forcing flower or not enough canopy to feed said flowers. Look good. Well done.

I don’t do nothing but top it and if growing autoflowers inside let them grow i personally don’t fool with them if leaves turn yellow i pull off and thats if here are 3 photos growing now been topped twice.

Since I have 8 plants, and 9 of the same strain 2 weeks from harvest ( in other words, plenty of weed) I’ve decided to trim 4 below topping point, and leave the other 4 as is. That should settle it. I’ll report back after a few weeks in flower to compare, and again at harvest :-).

Ok, putting the trim to the test. This morning I trimmed 4 to under the topping point and left 4 alone. I’ll report back here as the grow progresses. 29 days old today.
My flower tent has maybe 2 weeks b4 harvest, so, I’ve decided to leave these in veg, until I can move them to the “flower” tent, here’s a pic of it, as of today

Well, the trimming certainly didnt slow growth even a tiny bit at 35 days old, all are flourishing.

Lots of swollen trichromes, all “foggy”, no ambers yet at 93 days old, getting really close. Looks like it will be a bountiful harvest;-).

BTW, 2 different grows, growing at the same time, I’m trying to start a new crop every 50 - 60 days, so far so good, but 17 plants is a lot of work!
