Easy way to think about evaluating trichomes:
- Clear trichs look like glass
- Cloudy trichs look like plastic
- Amber trichs look… well amber
Happy growing!

@Randy_Marsh I’ve misjudged watering and nutes once or twice along the way here, so I guess the white tops could be due to that too. Lessons learned
That right there. The channel is real informative.
Oh, I meant like trying it out lol. But @Travis_Hill actually has a kit so it would be cool to see what happens with it.
You will want to monitor them closely especially this early in flower. The fact that they are producing white tips this early means that the light needs to be moved up about 2 in. They appear healthy in the picture, but watch for any browning which is burn.
@Stonedrus 10-4, I’ve moved the lights up, so hopefully that will take care of the bleaching. I’m not entirely sure about the exact spectrum #'s for my light, but It’s supposed to have a decent red end.
Would you all mind if I followed up in a week or two with more trichome pics to give myself a sanity check before I start flushing? I’ll try to get more bud, less leaves in the pics next time lol
You have a few weeks before you need to start flushing. But updates and bud shots are always welcomed! Especially updates with bud shots! Lol
Hey all, a few more pics below, but I’m hoping you can help me understand when the pre-harvest flush is supposed to happen.
I was under the assumption that the flush starts x amount of days (x would be 14 for the 2 week flush) before you plan on harvesting. So if you believe the trichomes will be 30% amber in 2 weeks from Saturday (assuming that’s the trichome development you’re looking for), then you would start your flush on Saturday and give the plants nothing but water for the next 2 weeks, after which you would harvest.
Or do you keep feeding nutes until you see the trichomes developed how you like them, and then you start your flush, basically keeping them in the ground for x more days (however long the flush) giving the plants nothing but water?
Anyway, pics below
YOu have some time to go. First watch for the pistils to change color and curl in, then check trichs.
@Newt 10-4, thanks - that visual really helps.
When do you usually start the pre-harvest flush (assuming you do that)?
I shoot for when I think I’m 2 weeks out. Last grow they were done and ready in 10 days, so they got chopped. Based on a lot of reading about flushing, it seems the final product is nearly unaffected either flushing or feeding till chop. So I flush just cause nutes cost money.
And by the way… She looks tasty!!!
Agreed. That top photo had me swoon
Hey everyone, I’m just giving updates for anyone interested. I’m thinking of starting to just give the plants water tomorrow, assuming I’ll harvest in the next 2 weeks.
Nice pretty fall colors developing (I’m hoping that’s all it is lol):
This is one of the buds that turned white:
This is a closeup of the white part - still looks clear-ish on this one to me, which is confusing cause it’s getting some of the most direct light:
This is just a good healthy one:
crappy closeups lol:
This is the other bud that started turning white:
It has started turning colors more than the other bleached one:

Counting the minutes till I harvest…
I’m seeing some amber in 3 out of these 8 tric pics - a big part of me wants to harvest now. Do I hear a “nay”?
Happy harvest day!
She’s close, I think. The pistils and those white masses makes it confusing for me.
Way to many white hairs the buds are still developing and lots of clear trichomes. The only amber I see is on some sugar leaves and a few here and there on some of the pictures. I would wait a week then reevaluate. I know it’s hard to wait at this point but it’s worth the wait. The difference between OK good weed and really good weed.
